Hi everyone,

Iam having an issue with my dash cam where the screen suddenly goes black during operation. The device appears to continue recording (the indicator light stays on), but I cannot view the footage or navigate the settings while driving. This happens intermittently and has become frustrating.

Here’s what I have tried so far:

  1. Ensured the power connection is secure and tested with a different cable.
  2. Updated the firmware to the latest version available.
  3. Reset the dash cam to factory settings.
Iam using a VIOFO A119 V3 with a 64GB microSD card (formatted correctly). The issue happens regardless of whether the car is moving or stationary. Could this be a hardware problem, a compatibility issue with the SD card, or something else?

Has anyone else faced this issue? Any troubleshooting tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm sorry you are having this problem. Intermittent failures are very frustrating. Just to be clear:
Does the dash cam continue to record even while the screen is black?
Can you view those recordings on a computer, using a card reader?
If "yes" to these questions, then I would suspect the dash cam, specifically something like an intermittent connection to the display. If I were to speculate with zero evidence, I would look for a cold solder joint somewhere. But that's pure speculation.
BUT FIRST, test the dash cam with a different microSD card, maybe even a different brand/model. My A119 V3 runs perfectly with a Samsung Pro Endurance card.

Thanks for your response! Yes, the dash cam continues recording, and the footage is viewable on a computer even when the screen goes black screen. I will test it with a different microSD card, like the Samsung Pro Endurance you mentioned. If the issue persists, I will check for hardware/display connection problems.

This sounds more and more like a display problem.
This video will let you see what's inside without having to open your own unit. If you have built a computer, or changed the battery in a tablet or cell phone, then changing a ribbon cable should be simple (if that's the cause of your problem).
Good luck!
