Dashcam app necessary?

I’m about to pull the trigger and buy a Viofo A229 Pro based on your review. One thing I want to confirm first is…can I operate this without the app? I know the app make things easier but I don’t want my personal travel data going to any server for others to see, use or sell. Thanks again

Yeah you can use it without the app. There are a few things that are easier with the app, plus it can be convenient to download footage to your phone, but you can definitely use it app-free.

If you're curious, I just posted a video showing how to use the dashcam, and I did most of the settings changes without the app.

Yes, the A229 Pro can easily be used without an app, it has an LCD screen allowing all setup options to be configured, and it is a decent size screen, so easy to read.

The app can be very useful if you want to download a video to your phone to show to police, but it is not necessary.

Also, the app works fine with no internet connection, so I am pretty sure that Viofo do not take any of you personal data, you don't even need to register with them, unlike some other dashcam companies.

Firmware updates also do not need the app, unlike some other brands.
