Hi all,

About two months ago I got a DR750X Plus 2CH professionally fitted into my 2015 BMW F20 LCI - it was hardwired. Ever since then - no matter what I set the battery protection to in the BlackVue app, the dashcam seems to pretty much stay on all the time. As far as I understand from the company that fitted it and from threads on here, with Battery protection set to the soonest thresholds - 12.5V and 1H, the dashcam shouldn’t record any longer than 1H after ignition is switched off, if not sooner when reaching 12.5V on the battery.

My dashcam doesn’t do this - it carries on recording, in Parking mode if it’s enabled, in normal mode if it’s not, regardless of the battery protection voltage setting, with a cutoff timer too, or if it’s off completely. Since having it fitted, my car will often struggle to start, not dramatically but enough to make me notice that the dashcam has been running overnight, for example. Also, about 50% of the time I get a warning on the iDrive screen saying that the battery has been discharging, and to get this checked if it happens multiple times.

Something is definitely not right, I’m just not sure why it would blatantly ignore the battery protection settings - especially the cutoff timer (I don’t have a multimeter so I’m not physically able to check if the voltage is low enough to cutoff, but it has always shot straight through the cutoff timer when I’ve had it set).

Any help would be appreciated, if anyone would happen to have any ideas as to why this is going on. I’m worried I’ll go to my car one morning and it simply won’t start - I haven’t had chance to leave it for more than a few days but if I ever do, I don’t want to get stuck.

Many thanks
Max

The most common reason for this to happen would be if the installers connected both the red wire and the yellow wire to "constant power fuses". The red wire should be connected to an "accessory power fuse" such as your radio fuse.

It's hard to imagine that a professional installer would make this mistake, but it's worth taking a look at.

If the installation was done correctly, you might have a faulty dashcam. It's unusual for the dashcam to cause this, but if it is, Blackvue will send you a new unit. - Good luck!

We're seeing a small number of DR900X units with this issue and are in communication with BlackVue about this. Hoping it's not issues with an entire batch of units.
