Hey guys. Looking at buying a dash cam for my summer car in the next little while. I've had a couple dash cams in the past but never put much thought into it. I had one of those old generic flip-down screen dash cams that were all over eBay a few years ago, until it died on me. Never replaced it. Then last Christmas my dad bought me a Papago GoSafe 200 with the mirror clip. I like it, but it's a pain having to readjust my mirror everytime I try to take the SD upstairs to view videos lol. Anyways, so I'm looking for a new dash cam and have a few lined up, just looking for some advice or insight from you guys on them.

First on the list is the A119S. I like the wedge form factor. The adhesive mount I like because the suction on my old cam kept falling off the windshield. Video quality seems good too. And capacitor instead of battery is good because it's gonna be in a summer car. What I dislike, is that it doesn't have wifi. I'm trying to get one with wifi just to save me the effort of trying to remember to take the card upstairs when I need to save something. I've missed a few funny videos in my winter car because I've forgotten to bring it upstairs (it's a Crown Vic, so you can imagine how some people react to it rolling behind them on the highway).

The Transcend DrivePro 200 is next. Seems like a solid camera too. Slightly lower resolution than the A119S and stands out a bit more, but it has wifi which I like. Biggest downside is Amazon has it listed in Canada for almost $200! I'm trying not to spend that much.

Third is the Chupad D501. Seems like a newer camera so I don't know much about the reliability. But it ticks most of the boxes, similar to the Transcend one, except a lot cheaper and has the wedge form factor. Downsides are it has a battery instead of a capacitor, and I can't get it on Amazon (I'm a big lover of Amazon).

And lastly, is a Auto-Vox D7. Can't find much info on it, seems like it may be an Amazon brand type thing that isn't wide spread? Anyways, ticks off the wifi and capacitor boxes, and I like the form factor of it as well, similar to the BlackVue shape. But, seeing as how it's not listed in the comparisons and reviews on the site I'm not sure how good it may or may not be?

Anyways, if anyone has any experience with any of these cameras and can share some insight that might help with my decision, I'm all ears!

WiFi is over rated once you realize it goes unused after the fun wears off. WiFi cameras generally lower their bitrate to allow videos to reliably stream/transfer at the cost of video quality.

A119S would be my pick out of those. (beyond the bias of being a seller of VIOFO)

I have no affiliation with vifo and i would go with the A119S too.

And as you can get the A119S locally that's a big plus too in case something go wrong.

Only had my A119S for 4 weeks, and totally satisfied. Bought the CPL at the same time and glad I did. The improvement in video quality without getting the dazzling shines off other vehicles makes the CPL worthwhile.

You have to remove the filter for night driving though and reapply it for day driving, correct?

The CPL has just the right balance so most people leave them on 24/7 since the Sony sensor can handle low light even with this particular CPL left on

Ideally yes, but the Sony sensor will still give pretty good performance at night with it in place. And if you don;t have problems without a CPL in the daytime there is nothing lost but gains instead ;) I'm a rather demanding sort but I'd have an A119S if it fit my needs better than my other cam's do, and I'll probably end up with one someday anyway.

Not necessarily - it depends on the camera and how well it handles low light conditions.

In this thread about DIY CPLs I've got some clips with and without:

And here some after dark clips:

Edit: The material used in the DIY CPL used in these clips is darker than the ones available with the SG and VIOFO cameras so performance with the ready made CPLs should be a bit better.

I agree that WiFi is over rated and only causes unnecessary issues with most cameras at the moment.
