After I gave up on BlackVue DR500GW-HD as the video quality was sub par I researched a little bit more and decided to try the DOD LS300W.

It does seem to have wider angle of 140 degrees, not as much as BlackVue DR500GW-HD but slightly better than the 120 degrees of most DVRs. 140 degrees may help get a little bit more visibility when cornering.

I also thought about the DOD VRH3 as they are advertising 160 degrees view however some sites still quote 120 degrees and the sample videos certainly don't look like 160 degrees. I am not sure it is 160 degrees. If so you would expect it would look wider angle than DR500GW-HD. It does not.

I just ordered it along with the 3M mount accessory from their Canadian website:

http://www.dod-tech.ca

Though pricier than the other Chinese websites I can rest assured that I am buying original.

This one does not have GPS, I am not too interested in GPS, however the night time quality in sample videos is very good.

I will post once I receive the device and see how it works. Wish me luck !

I think it is a good camera. Waiting for your videos.
A wide angle is not good. Will make all objects smaller and you will not see the characters from the registration plates. If some event and not witnesses, the most important thing are the registration plates. Not the corners, the color of the sky or if the grass is green.

enjoy,

This camera is based on a new Novatek processor called the NT96650 and Aptina AR0330 CMOS sensor. Early reports from Taiwan are positive on this processor. It could be a decent camera.

interested to see how it goes as well, WDR is a great thing at night, day time use is not quite as good but I think that's probably a fair trade off for most users

VRH3 ----- FOV 160º(D) / 100º(H) / 71º (H)

LS300W ----- Wide Angle Lens 140° D'? or H?

Detailed comparison of a NT 96650 powered cam with the 747W and TF2 with pictures here. There's also pics of a JAEWONCNC IONE-3800FU disassembled.

Thats some serious advertising in white text all over that camera bro.

Looks interesting this. Please post vids when you receive.

Are there any other cams with WDR worth looking at? Preferably with parking mode.

DOD has manufacture in China, and opened a company in China, So Chinese seller can sell at lower price.
But you still notice there are many copy on the market.

That's what fisheye lens is for. Big registration numbers in the middle, extra visibility on edges.

like for like the fisheye lens will make things in the center of the image appear further away rather than bigger

Yes, the objects which are even in the center of a fisheye lens are smaller than if using a normal lens.
Wide lens are not good for reading license plates and in countries which have small characters on the registration plates should be avoided. I think this is for Australia too. In Europe we have big characters in almost all countries, maybe except Switzerland.

That generic mount does look like it would probably fit the LS300W, but with it being so short, you'd have to mount it on the roof instead. There's no way the cam would be able to pivot far enough to face forward if it's stuck on the windshield.

Well that didn't take long.

TioTech and DOD are the same company, DOD is the marketing side for their own brand, I'd expect they're using the TioTech name to chase OEM business, they don't manufacture product themselves but there's a lot more to it than just who assembles a product

I knew they were affiliated (with TioTech being "DODHK" on Alibaba) but I didn't know they were the same company. Thanks for the info. But you'd figure they'd hold on to their flagship product for a while before releasing the generic version, especially with their previous products being plagued with counterfeits. People that don't know these cameras are the same would just figure they were being widely counterfeitted again. Their OEM side of the business must be worth much more than the DOD brand if they're willing to do this.

I'm not sure what the DOD brand is worth, not because of copies but rather their own problems with quality control on a lot of the early stuff that has tarnished the brand, remains to be seen if their newer models are more reliable, the OEM business is potentially worth a lot more, particularly if they can pick up business in markets that have good uptake like Russia and Taiwan

I almost pulled the trigger on the Blackvue DR500, but I'm still researching.

Here's the BlackVue thread that educated me on this DOD.

As I said, At such a low price I might be ok ditching WiFi and GPS for the quality

Again it's annoying when clones muddle up the legit camera and then you don't get exactly what you think you're getting. I'd like more people to confirm what's what.

I'm waiting to hear more DashCam reviews about it. I don't see anything yet on http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/

But yeah the quality is outstanding if this is an accurate video. The size is about right, and any large white fonts can be taped or painted over maybe. Look like a possible winner but I'll hold off and keep researching/waiting a bit longer.
