Hello everyone, I have been using a DR500GW since 2013. I have never had a problem over the years, except that a year ago the battery had to be changed to buffer the time and date. For a few days now the following: If I turn on the camera at the start of the trip, it draws for about 15sec. correctly, then the picture becomes almost dark. You can only see shadows. Speed, day and time as well as audio are recorded correctly. WLAN works perfectly. In live mode, this can be followed very well on the iPhone. I contacted Service Adam GmbH in Germany, who said it could be a defect on the lens.
Unfortunately he cannot offer repairs because Pittasoft has discontinued the service for this model.
Does anyone have an idea what I can do?

Sound like it could be the sensor gone duff, but it really needs diagnosing by an expert unless someone comes along here with an "I know exactly what that is" moment.
And it is obviously the latter that you are hoping for.
I don't like the idea of a defect on the lens, as that would be present all the time rather that 'warming up' for 15 seconds before it shows itself.

Thanks for your fast replay,
yes I also think that is the cause. After 15 sec speaks for a heat fault. Now we don't have extremely high temperatures in Western Europe at the moment, but maybe it's also due to climate change ?? Anyway: I also have some knowledge of electronics and will open the case. It may also be that after 7 years, a lot of dust has settled inside due to convection. The camera gets quite warm during normal operation. I will report how it ends. Have a nice weekend in Brexit UK. You have to be happy.
Regards Greifi

Ask Greta about warming up. She'll know the answer.
And we have until a week today before Brexit, and then the 'cooling off' period (or whatever they call it) that Boris wants done in a year.

Hi M8TJT
as promised, I send you some pictures in accordance to my investigation.
The PCB looks like brand new, no dust, nothing overheated. Only the capacitor 5.0V 7.5F show typical electrolyd marks, so as I mean he lost capacity. I will try to find a replacement and let you know.
Finally: BREXIT is done.
best regards ERO

I don't think the capacitor will make any difference as it is only there to provide enough power to allow the camera tho shut down gracefully when primary (car) power is removed. If the cam announces "The Blackvue is now shutting down" or similar, (providing shutdown message has been enabled in the firmware) then there is nothing wrong with the capacitor. Don't bother to replace it.
I'm 95% certain that it must be a sensor fault.

Yes, it is not really a sign fur warming up fault. You are right. The camera announced the shutdown message.
Sensor fault is for me not to repair. At first the sensor is propper capseld and without spare part not to replace. Also I need a SMD desoldering equipment.
Thanks once more for your assistence and have a nice weekend.
be carefull because CORONA

Presumably that was too much of it the night before?
