Must have been a VIP in the ambulance or a very sick child. These days in the UK it's just prison vans that get that level of escort service.

This is quite normal in the Netherlands it is one or two cases that the police will escort an ambulance. This is done for a very sick person ie someone in trauma or a body part which is for transplant. The police closing off junctions prevents accidents. However some times the public go wrong. You can see the police rider gets angry with a few cars.

yeah many ppl panic when confronted by cops or ambulance with horns and light blasting.

I have been working on ferries for a while, and as soon as some one have driven ther car on bord a ferry it is like they instantly forget how to drive and Loose every Little bit of common sense they might have.

Some / most ppl pull over and stop when they hear a ambulance, but i have often seen this mean that the ambulance is caught out behind 4 lanes of stopped traffic at a intersection, and nobody react they just remain stopped, so in the end the ambulance have to jump a high curb to use bicyclepath or sidewalk.

Video of the (now ex Queen) of The Netherlands being escorted through traffic. One car tries to cross the junction. It must have coursed some alarm as the Queen's car changes path to keep clear of the other car.
