Hi just bought a 612gw. Is there a way to edit the videos so can make them longer than 3 minutes. I want to put a few videos together so makes a long video of a journey

you can stitch the videos together in an editor, very easy and no encoding involved so it's quite quick

longer files are not practical for the camera to be able to work as intended

What editor do you use please. Sorry im new to dashcams

ok well have a look at the various editors and see which you feel comfortable with, the learning curve on some is steeper than others, some are free, many are paid but stitching videos together is a pretty standard function in any editor

this has been covered quite a few times over the years, maybe have a search on the forum to see what others are using as a starting point

@old4570 has posted some details on different editors https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/search/407956/?q=editor&c[users]=old4570&o=date

@Nigel has covered a lot of the functions using ffmpeg, might be worth searching his posts also https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/search/407961/?q=ffmpeg&c[users]=Nigel&o=date

ffmpeg can do almost anything, and do it very well, it is what I use for almost everything, but it is a command line tool and can be quite complex to use until you have done a lot of learning so I don't normally recommend it! I have a batch file which copies all today's video files off the camera into a single video file on the computer in one mouse click, another to produce a front/rear split screen video.

If you want an editor with a normal graphical user interface that allows file joins, cuts, zooms, captions, etc., then I recommend VSDC : http://www.videosoftdev.com/ Still takes a bit of learning to get started, but it is good and free.

You might also try a dashcam viewer, or Dashcam Viewer itself, these normally include a function to very easily output a single stitched together video with very little learning involved, but I don't normally find very long videos to be at all interesting to watch, normally you just want a few clips edited together.

There is also a movie editor in windows again.

Yeah lots of options, all have a learning curve so what feels easy for one user can be a hassle for another, even the paid ones normally have a trial version, get in there and try is the best way

The old Windows video editor was good and the easiest to learn, but very outdated. Good to see it back, but is it any good?

I have not tried it as i have recently changed from pinnacle studio to cyberlink power director.
The new one seem pretty strait forward, just import and then drop your videos in the order you want on the time line, and hit export i assume.

All editors are valid now dashcams dont have a overlap on the individual files, back when that was the norm registrator viewer was a god sent + its ability to automatic sort and bundle your videos up into drive sessions.

Any suggestions for editors that could also include GPS info through a GPX file for instance. Tried Garmin's Virb but I'm looking for something light that could support online editing.
