@Rayman.Chan shared some firmware for testing at another thread. I just opened this thread to be clear and not to be mixed with any other comparisons, or official firmware releases. Personally it's important for me because I really like the concept of NanoQ and it looks really promising, but has some drawbacks. :( My biggest problem with it currently the overexposed video on sunny days (and yet I can't imagine what will it do at a snowy day)

If you also testing these versions please share your opinion!

I'll try to collect all remarks here.

  • for first, I tested the AE metering in a dark room as did it before. I didn't noticed any difference in metering compared to 20160603 or 20160705. Still overexposed once the light source not exactly in the middle.
  • It's not sure, but I thinks it is using higher ISO at low light conditions than did before. Will investigate deeply with comparison later.
  • Unfortunately I didn't noticed any improvements on sunny exposure
Late afternoon, so the Sun aren't shined so much

  • Looks better (than other 0903 firmwares) on sunny days
  • Great quality at night (but on EV0 overexposed like before). In my opinion licence plates are more important than environment. So maybe manually decreasing Exposure or some more improvement needed (for me) in AE table :)

Ok, I promise I'll stop whining (soon). But...
0903 advertised as 135° view and 0805 advertised as 120°. When I got my 0805 I measured it and it has about 103°. Just now when I uploaded 2 pictures (above) noticed, it looks 0903 view angle less than 0805. And didn't mention the distortion yet...

angle is normally a diagonal value that is given, the same lens used with a different sensor will also yield a different result, numbers given are often the max of the lens, not necessarily what it will show in real use, in other words there's a lot of marketing BS with lens spec from most brands

we used a 7G F1.7 lens for nanoQ 0903 to ensure the high sensitivity even in dark conditon, which bring little over exposure in day time.
(F1.7 is around 1.3 times light passing than a F2.0 lens; price is twice.)

in the multi test, the software will detect the whole image light; half image was taken by dark tree or shadow or blue hood so the whole image was highlighting which made the vehicle over exposure; but the dark shadow is much lighter than 0805 image.

in the center test, the image center is in normal light intensity, so the exposure is turn down, then you can find the dark area is darker than 0805's.

if possible, I would like to appreciate the comparison in night :)

@Rayman.Chan , Just updated first post with night test (center). Ok, I have to agree, much more light reach sensors on 0903 than 0805, but I think (and sorry to say that) light metering still needs improvements. After today test, I have to say, I don't see any difference in metering table...?!? Or maybe firmware just ignoring it?

Ok, I know the best comparison between firmwares should be 3xNanoQ (with different fws) in same time...

Just came back to home from work. Have no 0805 footage, but never burnt like this, especially whit this kind of scenery. (fw20160825-test-center)

UPDATE: Found 0805 footage at same weather conditions (sunny), same place, another date:

If it is not a huge work, can I try this ae table, please?

Ok, this is not a common use for this, but this is intresting. Today I forgot to turn off my NanoQ when I arrived to work. It recorded 9 hours continously in 1920x1080@30 BOOST mode (20mbps, fw20160825-test-multi). I don't know how other firmwares behaves in similar situation, but today I lost my half audio... 1 second sound - 1 second silence - 1 second sound ....
When I started the car I just realized the dashcam already recording. So I checked the temperature, it showed 52°C, so i think it wont be problem so didn't stopped recording and came home.

The other thing i see in this video: The firmware is not settint exposure automatically well. Today was a cloudy/sunny day, when sometimes the sun started to shine and sometimes there was shadow. If you watch the video, you will see on white Mercedes in front of me, there is no compensation by dashcam.

The specifications are:
0903 NanoQ: fw 20160825-test-multi
1920x1080@30 BOOST (20mbps)
EV -1 | WDR Off
Loop 3min
Samsung SDHC 32GB (MB-MP32D) FAT32
starting temperature 52°C

got card full error in this firmware.

got card full error in this firmware.

What kind of memory card do you have?

-Make sure the "LOOP" is NOT "off"
-Try to format your card in dashcam
-Make sure you did NOT changed card's partitions table before (in computer)
