I received the T800 today - packaged in the expected high quality box like the A810 before it.

I have started the process of setting the dashcam up in the car - though until I can get a multimeter so I can find a suitable fuse to tap into, to hard wire it, tonights example is from the 12v feed.

A point tor two to note:

The front camera is quite heavy and I ended up attaching it to the glass instead of the anti-static sticker.

The cable from the front to the rear camera is very substantial and takes a bit of persuading to fit it all out of sight behind the car interior panels.

That said - here is a couple of minutes from tonight - and wet and windy night around the city centre.

Paul.

Look nice, looking forward for some footage with dryer glass, CUZ in this video there are quite a bit of blooming on the lights.

What kind of file size is it cranking out ?

Yeah, my windows need some work on the inside especially!

The file sizes are interesting and fps too, in so much as the front camera records at 25fps but the cabin and rear both report 30fps. @Eve tells me that the 25fps is because I am set at 50Hz for the UK (and to change that to 60 would make it 30fps though that will likely introduce some flicker from lights). Why the rear and cabin cameras differ from the front is something I don't understand.

Starting the dashcam up for the first time, it took a few seconds to run, but all was fine. I drove a short distance but realised I needed to change the screen timeout (it stayed on) so I parked up and connected the to the app on my phone.

It instantly notified me of an update to the firmware, so I followed the prompts to download it, and that took less than 30 seconds I'd say, following which it asked if I would like to push the update to the cameras, so of course, yes. The transfer was pretty fast and the update completed with no issues via the wi-fi hotspot.

I then turned the screen to "off" as oppsed to the options of "Always On" or to display a clock.

All this was easy and fast.

Another interesting point is that the dashcam names the memory card! This was a smaller card to before putting the 512Mb in today (which it will no doubt apply the same name to.

That 25 FPS thing is annoying, even for someone that live in a 25 FPS PAL country.
I will try to change my X800 to 60 Hz mains frequency and see what happen, i would take 30 FPS and flickering lights any day over 25 FPS.

Summer is a wonderful time, the rain is warmer, eagerly awaiting it arriving here in Denmark which temperature wise have been sort of OK lately but i really need lower wind speeds to be able to really enjoy my other hobby.

We don't have flicker lights in the UK any more, incandescent lamps were banned, and then fluorescent lamps were banned, and sodium lamps were replaced by LED because LEDs are much more power efficient. The only 50Hz flicker lamps left are some neon lamps that you might find in city centres.

I have seen LED car lights but also billboards ASO act really funny in footage.
Not that i mind they are all things i do not see with my eye, and i do not put that much value in none accident footage + i dont think these quirks will hamper accident footage.

Here is a look at the T800 (at the top of the split screen) and my Viofo A229 Pro. Note that the Viofo is running in letterbox format.

The T800 had the better over all image, to my eyes. The A229 Pro did handle the light blooming a bit better though.

The Viofo is on the nearside of the car, the T800 on the offside (of rear view mirror). I think it's possible the glass is cleaner on the left, and I'm gonna try and do the inside if I can (but my old back makes it hard to angle myself to do it, lol).

Cleaner glass might help. Also considering new and better wiper blades which may help on the outside.

You know, I had wondered if the interior glass needed cleaning. I always forget to clean the inside glass myself, until one day I am looking at a video and it dawns on me to clean the glass. πŸ™‚

Yes, but they will flicker whichever setting you use, because they don't flicker at 50Hz, cars don't have 50Hz, they run on DC instead of AC.

There used to be billboards that flickered because they used fluorescent tube lights, but they have all switched to LED, because fluorescent tubes are no longer manufactured, and they have a limited life. So it is unlikely that they will flicker at 50Hz now, they will flicker at LED frequency, which is normally far faster these days.

Good thing I noticed was when I took out the 70mai 520gb micro SD card, it was quite cool compared to other dashcams running 4k.

Hopefully someone can do one of those technical heat tests!!!

Thats nice, memory cards i feel have become hotter and hotter.

I think i will have to start looking at least at 512 GB cards, probably not for a test suite like i have 256GB, but for something like this it might be warranted.

Guessing it's because of the lower bitrate compared to say Viofo which runs at double the bitrate for the front usually. Also could be the wider body and what looks to be more ventilation holes in total than say an A329/A329x.

I would do the heat tests but it's winter here so I'm out of luck πŸ™

It is quite funny, even if i have seen A LOT of UK dashcam footage, every time for the first spilt second my brain scream Aaaaaaa CUZ of the "wrong" side thing.

The footage, it do look like 2 different cameras in the color handling at least, but it could also just be a side effect of settings / lighting conditions, CUZ a camera facing sun will of course use other parameters than one facing away from it.

I think the overall white balance needs to be tweaked in firmware, I'm sure @Eve and the team will notice it in this example.
