Front dash cam with buffered parking mode

Thanks for the photo Russ. That mount looks good, does it come with the mobius?

Ideally I would setup both front and rear cams on motion detect mode with a BDP device, so I can just install everything and forget about it. The mobius seemed ideal for this for the rear of the car (with a super capacitor), being inexpensive, discreet and good quality although it doesn't have buffered motion detection. I would rather not leave the mobius on permanently, because even with a BDP set to a low time period, 6 hours, it will mean the mobius is running for the entire 6 hours (or until the voltage cut off).

So it doesn't sound like you have much confidence of the mobius motion detection capabilities. Does anyone else have experience with it?

I've read through this thread regarding the mobius in motion detection mode https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/mobius-in-motion-detect-mode.3656/ It seems to work "okay" on medium sensitivity. However most people were running firmware 2.1 and there have been five firmware updates since then. I wonder if any of them improved the mobius motion detect. I can't find the details of the firmware updates, only download links.

Has anyone tested the g sensor trip on parking mode to see what actual force is needed to trip these cameras into pre buffer action ???

I just thinking if you can drive around over speed bumps etc without the g sensor tripping it must take a hell of a bang to record anything in parking mode ....

Mobius doesn't come with mounts. I bought it here...

Whether you leave it running in loop-recording or motion detect mode, the camera is 'on' all the time & the power consumption difference is minimal. A 64GB card is enough for nearly 9 hours in loop-recording mode.

I've been meaning to test this on my SGZC12RC, but keep forgetting to do so. In practice, when parked, the buffered motion detect will capture anything that the camera could record if the g sensor was tripped. Except in an unlit area at night, when the camera cannot 'see' anything but can 'feel' an impact.

From that I assume it takes a 3g impact if set on medium for driving...

bit like a chocolate fireguard then...in offering buffered no protection

Looks like you forgot to sense-check the above before clicking on 'post reply'

Thanks for the link to the mount.

Do you know what kind of power drain the mobius has on a battery when turned on in loop-recording mode? I'm just thinking if I have both the mobius running, and the 12RC, then I don't want my battery taking a hit every night.

Thanks Russ

So I've made a decision. I'll get the 12RC for the front and mobius for the rear, with BDP which allows for a cut off of 2 hours in case the mobius is on for too long when I'm not driving the car enough.

For the rear view I assume I want a C2 lens?

The ebay product links on the mobius dashcamtalk page come from china, but I find 3 weeks for delivery sometimes can be frustrating. Joovu is out of stock. Mobius-cam.com is sold out.

Is there a V3 of the mobius? I've seen that advertised but it might just be referring to the lens type.

This is UK stock which would be good but I'd like to buy from a recogniser seller. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151771925522

So I've made a decision...

A & C2 are both good lenses. The C2 gives better results at night &, given that now is the Winter Solstice, is the best choice for current conditions.

To avoid buying a fake Mobius, purchase from a Mobius-approved seller ...

Thank Russ, I will do. Thanks for the link :)

I'm just compiling the list of other parts I need. Which memory cards are best for the 12RC and the mobius? Two of these? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/B00APCMME0
However, I've read that class 4 card may be better for the mobius? https://www.mobius-actioncam.com/faq/

I've also got a load of 5A fuses, I would assume these are suitable for the fuse taps or do you think I should get a couple 3A fuses?

I'm using a Lexar 64GB card in the 12RC, & Kingston 32GB cards in both of my Mobius cams. All Class 10. The recommended most compatible card for Mobius is Kingston Class 4, however, compatibility issues have largely been fixed by recent firmware updates, so the 32GB Transcend should be fine in both of your cams.

I won't comment about the fuses, as my cams aren't hardwired, & other contributors know far more about the practicalities than I do.

Thanks mate, how many hours of recording do you get with the 64GB in the 12RC?

Thanks Pier :) I wasn't sure of the bit rate

I operate mine full time in buffered motion detect mode. When driving it's recording to card all the time in 2 minute duration clips (just like loop-recording).

When parked, it only records to card when activated by motion, e.g. passing vehicles, tree branches moving in the breeze, raindrops rolling down the windscreen, etc.

These clips vary in duration from around 20 seconds to 2 minutes depending on how long the motion persists. So I cannot say for certain how long you'll get with mixed driving & parking.

Thanks Russ. From the link that Pier gave, I'm sure 32GB will be plenty in both cams.

Finally made some purchases.

Street Guardian 12RC from Niko
Mobius from Banggood (£44 through the app)
Mobius super capacitor
Mobius mount (thanks Russ)
1A USB cigar socket for Mobius
Cigar splitter

Think that's enough shopping for today

Tomorrow I'll check the fuse sizes in my car to order the correct size fuse taps and measure the cable length I need for the Mobius in the rear.

I'm now looking at memory cards and thinking about 64gb cards. It looks like the mobius may have issues with 64gb cards? Does anyone have any experience with this, and if you have had success with one then please let me know.

Thanks

Forgot to say - thanks to everyone who helped me make the decisions :)

Looks like you will be set Jez  now if only that would guarantee the dumbasses on the British roads would keep clear of your car.

Mobius handle 64 Gb cards just fine, just have to force format them to fat32 with some tool i forgotten the name off.

I need a 64 Gb for my mobius, had to move the old one and the 32 Gb i used for a while have now gone into read only mode.
