Getting rid of battery?

Mine's hard-wired anyway, so technically I could put a capacitor outside the case for clean shutdown. Will it run with no battery installed or will some rewiring be needed for it to work?

Mine runs great, just planning ahead for when the battery dies.

Probably easiest to replace the battery when it gives up, they don't cost much.

If you don't then you need to connect a capacitor in it's place, not to the power supply. If the battery/capacitor runs out of power then you will loose the clock and it wont get set again until the gps locks on which will be after the first file has been created with the wrong time. With no battery or capacitor the files will not get closed properly and the card format will get corrupted.
