hello from germany!

my name is manfred and i´m interested to buy a car camera like gs2000 or gs5000

i don´t find what is exactly the difference between this both.

could you explane it to me?

and what i have to look for, if i want bay this one? where is it best? which firmware and so on?

thanks a lot and best regards,

manfred

Hi manfred,

The GS5000 is just a blue menu GS1000. This camera has inferior picture quality and less reliable compared to the GS1000 orange menu. GPS problems and bad quality lenses are more likely with the GS5000 / GS1000 blue menu cameras.

You can read about the V2000GS in this thread. It is better than the GS5000 / GS1000 blue menu cameras. However, I think the GS1000 orange menu is a better deal. You can see comparison videos in the thread above as well.

Full details on the GS1000 cameras can be found on the GS1000 main page. Places to purchase from and firmware to look for is provided there.

hi dash cam man!

thanks for answering ...

did i understand it right ... you think gs1000 orange menu will be better than v2000gs orange menu?

what i would have is gps, shocksensor and so on.

which one will be the best vor me?

where i can buy it best and from a serious/reliable dealer?

best regards
manfred

Hi manfred,

Yes, the GS1000 Orange Menu is the best option from the ones you listed. It is cheaper and has less reliability issues. Also has a better battery.
Both have GPS and G-sensor.

Any of the 3 vendors on the main GS1000 page will be ok to purchase from.

Hi manfred,

When the ad does not indicate the firmware and very few have been sold, it is safe to assume this is the lower quality Blue Menu GS1000. I would not purchase this, especially at this high price.

Finally got my GS1000 from china post, camera was stuck on airport for 6 weeks.
This one is from dealextreme, SKU: 118263, firmware is smh4.35.160712B
I don't know who is maker, it says iTracker in start, could it be texet?
This is much better that gs5000, no need to change lense on this one.
Lens is large and flat from outside, can be seen on this video.

Hi Sabe,

Congrats on your purchase. Texet is a Russian brand (they don't manufacture). All these cameras come from Chinese manufacturers but it is hard to pinpoint the exact manufacturer. Regardless, you ended up with a decent one even though the wait was long. Thanks for the video of the menus. Share your thoughts on any positive / negatives since you have a GS5000 as well.

Not necessary, dx sent my camera quickly, but then that china party congress got mail under special investigation and everything was delayed. But congress is over now, and dx sends items through hongkong post too, so maybe not so long wait i hope.

the chinese special investigations are _nothing_ compared to italian customs!! It will take two days to travel from china to italy, and 40 days from italian customs to central italy where I live... :-(

Hi manfred,

Sometimes these 3 vendors include the firmware in the ad, sometimes they don't. Galileo Technology shows the firmware in the picture. For the other 2, just send them an email to see what the firmware is. Note that these vendors have sold quite a few of these cameras and in the past have been reputable. This could change but, I believe these are your best bets.

Well, i had one good day then gps died. I don't what's the problem, it worked in same car before.
I don't know is it worth it to replace it because it would take up two months to go back and forth, and maybe new one is faulty too. And i'm not convinced that is speed detection good thing after all, because all your possible speeding is then recorded too, if ever needed as evidence.

the page from Saddle has a screenshot reporting a strange firmware: SMH 1.24.30.1111

Is it a known firmware?

GPS is back in business again. There is no option in menu to enable or disable gps, so no help there, then i try to press reset button but no help. Last i selected camera menu option "default setting" and that worked and gps started to work again. Small inconvenience though, language will change to chinese again. Now i noticed that when connecting camera to computer that can sometimes make gps passive again, but now it's easy to fix. You just must remember to check that gps icon is green after starting camera next time.

Hi papinist,

I am not familiar with that firmware version. Perhaps it is one of the first batches of orange menu cameras. Based on the feedback from August, Saddle was selling firmware version SMH4.35.210512SA. Not sure what they are currently selling but they are good at responding to questions.
