Hi Ben,
Are you using the DV Route Player software that comes with this camera? If so, perhaps try using Registrator Viewer. It is better software to view videos and maps from GPS enabled dash cams. It is also freeware.
If that does not solve your problem, there is likely something wrong with the GPS module. I imagine your camera is running firmware v2.0.3G1KB or v2.0.4G1KB. If so, your GS5000 is really a GS1000 blue menu camera which is known for GPS issues. I was chatting with a Chinese vendor who sells both the GS1000 blue menu and GS1000 orange menu and he recommended the orange menu due to more GPS issues (not catching, not being accurate) with the blue menu.
