Hello,

I was involved in an accident to day, and everyone was ok.

The driver who hit my car was performing a lane change, and didn't signal and side swiped my car.

There wasn't a scratch on his rear bumper.

I was happy to have my Dash Camera installed and running.

When I got home, I couldn't believe my eyes, the camera stopped recording a second before impact!!!! This is the whole point of having a dash camera and it failed ....epic FAIL!

So disappointed with BlackVue.

Does anyone know if I can retrieve or recover the video some how.

Here is the log file...

The impact was at 10:10:46

I was wondering if anyone can help me recover the video showing the point of impact.

Thanks for reading!

Did u put the Card in a computer and look in the RECORD folder according to the times it should be there I reckon

Yes I did HB. The video cuts out at point of impact in both the BlackVue viewer app, as well as watching the raw video with AVI.

Either way, I am missing the most important part of the video.

There are a lot of other files on the SD card, some of which will not open with any application that I have installed on my computer.

Are you saying it detected the collision, automatically closed the current file, opened an emergency file, but lost a second or so at the join (including the impact)?
Or did you push a button to flag the event, and it then did those file operations?

Either way, that's sickening. I've learned from experience that the safest thing to do when something critical has been recorded is ... to do nothing, just let the dash cam keep recording safely, then several minutes later, shut it down and remove the memory card.
We shouldn't have to do these things. We need dash cams to work reliably at the moment of a collision, more so than at other times, not less so.

Make sure you have copied all relevant files to a safe place, then try different viewers. Some may reach frames at the end of a file that others don't.

The log file does suggest everything should have been recorded, including an overlap in the emergency file 20171209_101041_E (i.e. from 5 seconds before impact.)
Is this file present, and does it include the collision? It may be in a different folder?

I am not sure what happened with this camera and the recording. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

Based off the time stamp in the videos, I lost video from 10:10:47 to :10:11:42. I unplugged the camera at 10:13:15.

I did not push any buttons.

The entries
"[10:10:48][recfile_start:727] OPEN FILE 20171209_101041_E
[10:11:43][pta_close:3559]REC FILE CLOSE"

suggest that file 20171209_101041_E
contains a recording from 10:10:41 to 10:11:43

This would include 10:10:46, the moment of impact.

That is the file you must find. Check the main directory, if it isn't there see if it is in a special protected directory.

Edit> From the manual:
"If an impact is detected in normal or parking mode recording, event recording is started.
It records video for 5 seconds before and 55 seconds after the impact."
I can't see any info on where the event recording is stored though.

Any recommendations on any recovery software I could try to use?

I have looked at the data with MAC and Windows with the same results.

I am wondering if the video file is there somewhere?

As @Rajagra said, it looks like the camera recorded an event file from 10:10:41 to 10:11:42 - a 1 minute clip starting 5 seconds before the impact. Check again to see if there is another folder on the microSD card that contains event files, including 20171209_101041_E.

There is only the standard folders on the SD card, even when show hidden and protected are enabled in windows, there is no such file or folder.

Looking for recovery software at this point I guess?

Any suggestions?

I have BlackVue tech support as well, but waiting till Monday afternoon for their response at this point.

If there is no file saved somewhere I'm not certain there is anything to recover. All the recovery software and techniques I know of handle problem files which will not play, so lacking a file means they won't work. It's possible the needed file could be mislabeled- I'd start by glancing at them all before declaring the needed file was actually missing.

I’ve just had exactly the same. Perfect filming up to just before and after the accident. But at the point of impact the recording is corrupt and wont play. So not exactly the best dash cam for during an accident if it fails to record.

Do make some tests, let the cam record some normal video recordings, then... take the camera and BUMP it hard! Like, knocking it into your palm.. This would trigger about the same effect as if you're breaking hard and the G-sensor had to react to an impact.

Test for video afterwards..

Thanks for the confirmation, BlackVue will not admit there is an issue.

To them you u should...

Only use their cards
Format your card dauly
And replace you blackvue dash camera with a new blackvue camera every year.

I will not be spending my money on any future blackvue products.
