I have the add-a-circuit kit into the cigarette lighter fuse. It works because the things connected to the lighter work fine with the tap. But the camera doesn't get power. Camera does work and I got a new set of wires thinking it was the wires that went bad. Nope, still nothing. Also tried a mini fuse, and camera also didn't get power. Lighter is an ATO fuse.

Edit: Have this same setup in my Mazda 6 and it works perfectly. Only difference is that the Mazda uses low profile minis.

It looks like your fuse tap is set up correctly but I don't know how the kit is setup in your system.

If the camera works then the only things left to check are -
1. Ground connection
2. 12V connection
3. Kit

If you use a multimeter on the fuse tap and a ground, do you get 12V?

1. This might be it as I am having a difficult time googling this stuff for this particular car. I'll have to take a look again but I couldn't find ground point.
2-3. Bought brand new kit/wires. Unless I got a dud twice, I don't think it's them.

I don't have a multimeter. I'm new to all of this so I was hoping it was as simple as my Mazda connection... but I guess VW like to be complicated. I'm hoping it's just the issue with me not finding a ground point and that's it.

If you pull the side panel off, there should be a nut on a bare bolt. You can use loosen the nut, place your ground wire under it and tighten it again. That should work as your ground.

If you can't find that bolt then any metal part of the frame that is not painted should work as a ground.
