Wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot a dashcam hardwire. I'm using a fusetap and this power supply:

For some reason it turns on when the car starts but only for a few seconds then won't come back on. Both fuse tap slots filled with 5A fuses. The fuse box slot it's in was not in use before.

I followed this DIY:

I used PosiTaps for the connection which I have used on bikes and are much better than wiretaps imo.

Any ideas? I'd like to test to see if it's the power supply or the fuse tap and posi tap.
Would this be the right tool?

I have the red going to the posi tap-fuse tap and the black to the grounding screw. From what I read the yellow is accessory and didn't need to be connected.

have you tried it with the yellow connected? Accessory connection is what you'd generally be relying on for a camera to work while the vehicle is running

I haven't tried the yellow. Should I put both red and yellow into the posi-tap on a fuse that only gets power when engine is running?

I'm not familiar with the particular power supply you have, did it come with a wiring diagram?

I don't think so, but honestly can't remember. I've had it in the car for a while and try to troubleshoot every now and then. It shouldn't cause any problems if I plugged both red and yellow into the posi-tap, should it? It's worth a shot.

I would suggest seeing if it will run without.. the hardwire kit. It must have come with a cigarette or USB type of plug. Does it work properly with that?

Jokiin, that worked perfectly got both wires getting power when car starts. I finally got to it and it's been consistently working. Thanks really appreciate it.

Here's one for you geniuses out there : My no-name dual dash cams worked well after a few days and quit. Now it will not kick on, not even with the cigarette lighter cable. Strange thing is it will turn on with the 5v 1000 ma ac/dc adapter. I had hard wired it with same add-a-fuse as above to the wipers fuse (10 a, bottom) socket with a 7.5 a fuse (top). A little red light sometimes turns on but that's it.

Checked grounding - OK
tried another piggy fuse - same
tried reversing fuse sockets - same

Will really appreciate your opinion on the rather mysterious condition. I had admittedly under-estimated the complexity of this what I thought was a simple NIY project.

If it works correctly with one power supply but not others, then it's likely a power-related problem.

Are you using one USB cable with the car PS's and another with the mains adapter? If so, try the cable which works with the ciggie adapter and the hardwire set-up.

Yes I'm sure it's not the dashcam at fault. There are two accessories that came with it : a Ciggie Adapter and an AC/DC Adapter (house current). It only works with the latter. I am at a loss.
