It's called a WayPro. My dad bought in in China for $20 (that's what he said) and since the lens is out of focus, I tried Googl'ing how to fix it, but there was no indication it even exists. Some pics:

Here's a video overlooking the Settings and different modes:

So yeah, anyone ever heard of this dashcam? And any ideas how to fix the focus on the lens?

That's not an option, the DVR-027 arrives too late.

For 20$ you can't complain. Is that in San Fransisco? Road signs seem much sparser than in Europe. :)

I think the camera you have is a CarCam K6000: http://dashcamtalk.com/k6000/ ?

Yep! I'm in SF (or at least close to it). Also, that does seem like it. A Chinese knockoff of a Chinese product lol. Now if only I knew how to take it apart and fix the lens... Can somebody help me out here?

Again, not an option. The camera I want arrives too late for what I'm using it for.

What are you intending to use it for? You seem on a tight schedule.

Concerning the focus: What about adjusting it?
Sorry but it sounds to me like asking in a forum what to do about dirty t-shirts.
Off course you can buy new ones, clean. But in former days people just used a technique called "washing".

For the ones who are new to fixed focus cameras: It's done by turning the front lens while checking the resulting image.
note that center focus can be differend than the corners. So just imagine the area you are really interested in and take that as a reference.
An external TV-set/monitor will help. (Or running it via USB on a laptop as a webcam, in case this mode of operation is available)

expecially for this model it looks rather easy. even with a basic multitool it should be possible to grab the front of the M12 (some times called S-mount) lens.
And if you care about scratches: some permanent black marker pen will fix that sufficently for a 20USD devices...

keep in mind the lenses are set to focus (correct or otherwise) and then glued in position

Perhaps at your suppliers.
I had no lens so far that could not be changed (or adjusted) with a reasonable grip, even though some of them had been gunked quite firmly.

And for example in the panoramaII the focus was not only totally off, but the lens so lose i could turn it by just touching the front glas (what should be avoided off course) with a flat finger and simply turning it with very light pressure. so there at powerucc somebody definitly forgot to put the locktite.

some put a drop of glue with a syringe which is easily overcome, I've seen some that pile it on, damage could easily be caused if using too much force to turn the lens, a lens that can turn freely is definitely not right

Recording a road trip. Also my brother is taking his car to university, so I want to make sure he doesn't crash into anything.

Hey Xybone,

I see that your location is San Francisco - if you need something decent but economically priced ASAP, I currently stock DVR-207s (the newer version of the much loved DVR 027). My business is strictly an online store, but we do try to accommodate locals as much as possible :D

Here's the DVR 207 product link to our store:
http://www.dashcamsource.com/shop-dashcams/dvr-207/

If you absolutely need it tomorrow, I'd be happy to arrange for a meet up at a public place, somewhere in between Fremont and the city (perhaps Hayward?).

If you can wait a few more days, even if I ship it, it should arrive within a day or two.

Regardless, I hope you find the right dashcam in time!

Cheers,
Eva

Ahhhh the dvr027 fond memories indeed I bought one over two years ago thankfully it was the genuine article and not a clone.....I posted it to my son in law earlier this year its still going strong and he uses it every day......Ipol

I can't meet in person- personal safety and stuff like that- but your store does sound promising. I'll check it out. Do you include free shipping or shipping in 2 or less days?

So you really want to dump that cam you just bought due to a wrong set focus and buy a new one, since you are not willing to simply turn the front lens to adjust it yourself? (which would take you aprox less than 30 seconds... and not posts in forums as well...)

Just to make sure: In case you dump your car as well in case it get's dirty (from the inside or outside): Please let me know!

Sorry, i do not get it.

- You probably own this model (to answer your question) it's called (by some) "Novatek K6000"
e.g. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-dvr- ... 18786.html
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOVATEK-K6000-C ... 0944196776
http://www.dhgate.com/product/original- ... 23992.html

- to fix the issue (that's what you asked) you probably have to adjust the focus. That can be done by turning the front lens and takes less than a minute, best performed with the help of a TV acting as monitor.
- to buy other PVRs you may discuss, certainly. But i do not see the relation to your initial post, since the one you have is broken beyound repair. Off yourse there are reasons for owning more than one camera. but his has as well (in my oppinion) no relation to the initial post.

- Yes, it appears to be a knockoff K6000.

- I've adjusted the lens by applying pressure and using my index finger and my thumb, squeezing the lens, and turning it. Trying to find an HDMI cable to see if it still focuses on close objects.
- I mentioned wanting to buy a DVR-027 to replace this one (due to the lack of focus and not knowing how to fix it). But then this part confuses me. At first, you state I can fix the focus by rotating the lens. Then you say that it's unfixable? Personally, I want to own one camera for seeing what goes on in front, one to see what goes on inside of the vehicle. And to answer your "question", it's true, it doesn't really have anything to do with the original topic.
