Just wanted to say what a great site this is. I was recently in a bad accident (the other driver ran a red light, but claimed I did. He didn't know I had witnesses who would vouch for me). After going through that, I knew it was time for a dash cam. I googled, and this site came up. It is very informative, and well laid out. Great job to all those involved!

I have read and re-read your site many times, and have pretty much settled down to 2 dash cams. I am thinking of either the DOD F500LHD, or the DVR 027. Of those 2, which one do you guys recommend?

Thanks!!

Hi iamdrumming,

Both are decent cams. The negatives are the size and video quality at night. However they are great "starter" cams since they are affordable and pretty reliable. Once you have a dash cam for a while, it will become clear what features you want for your next cam. Personally, I prefer the F500LHD but it is more expensive.

Thanks for the reply. It is greatly appreciated!! I apologize for posting in the wrong forum. Newbie mistake :)

This was mentioned in another part of this forum, but I saw this Ebay listing:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/310585954574

I'm wondering if it's any good, and the seller said it's newer than the popular DVR-027. Just hope it's not all smoke and mirrors, but the price might be right.

You may move this thread to where it belongs :)

If the lens is better I think this is the most important thing.

You are not alone, iamdrumming. I had a 17-yo turn left into me when I was doing 40mph in a 5 month old custom ordered MINI. I didn't even have 4k miles on it. :(

Wow! That REALLY sucks!! My car was a 1995 Ford Escort. I know it was an older car, but I spent alot of money into it, and it drove really nice. The van that ran a red light was a full size 2010 Ford Econoline van, operated by an old guy who only had hand controls. No use of his legs at all. My car was barely into the intersection when he ran the red light. Needless to say the entire front of my car from the engine block forward was completely ripped away.

Hi Iamdrumming,

Since you are in Canada you might want to consider getting Genius DVR-530 from FutureShop or BestBuy.

Genius DVR-530 = Maybe the old good DVR-027?

The Genius DVR-530 is using the same case as the DVR-027. Unfortunately if you check out the videos, the DVR-530 quality is worse. Save yourself $10 and order the real DVR-027 from China.
