help me adjust this camera

The ammount of light in that picture is allso in the lower end where problems with motion blur on moving things might start.

But you might have to tweak the focus just a little bit, normally its only a mm on the circumfrence of the lens thats needed.

To test for focus its best if you do so parked and facing somthing fixed at different distances to your car ( other parked cars - billbords - store fronts and so on )

If you dont hit the sweet spot, then your camera will be biassed towards things near to you or far avay, and usioally that sweet spot is pretty small, so baby steps ajusting lens, and use some form of marks on the camera/lens so you allways can return to the starting point.
 
Question - is there a quality difference between capturing a screen shot (the whole screen), like he did here (looks like Quicktime?), and capturing a still image in the player itself? Would the image be of higher quality if the player program captured the image?

yes, full res screenshot from the file rather than the screen capture he provided would give higher quality result
