Just a quick one that I've not seen mentioned on here before - on a lot of DOD devices and the Chinese clones you can get into a hidden calibration menu by dropping a 0 byte file into the root of the memory card

Just power on the camera and the calibration menu will appear - it will vary from device to device in exactly what is available and functionality.
If you get a Read NOR Flash menu that will allow you to take a backup of the existing firmware - this option is not available on the DOD device I have here but will be on others - the firmware backup is dropped into the root of the memory card.
