I own a Kia K7 (Cadenza).
I'm looking into the A229ultra for a waterproof camera, and I'm wondering if it would be easy to install behind my car's shark fin antenna.

The Vantrue S1 Pro Max model appears to be designed for this location.

My biggest concern regarding installation is the thickness of the connection between the waterproof camera and the extension cable, which I'm concerned about hiding in the gap in the rear window.

If the cable from the camera were longer, the connector could be hidden inside the trunk, but based on publicly available information, the cable is short, so the connector would inevitably protrude.

Could Viofo make the cable for the waterproof camera longer?

Many Korean users are interested in Viofo products, but their accessibility is limited.
I'd love to try Viofo products, but without the opportunity to see or test them in person, I'm hesitant to buy.

I have same willing as you. And I'm ask Bill Zhou in email conversations about waterproof camera installation on car's roof on my Hyundai Accent. But still wait for answer from Bill or Viofo team.

I planning to do a hole in a roof antenna body and connect rear cam short cable with extension cable inside a car, in free place between metal roof and a carpet. (roof carpet should be detached firstly).
Also we need to care about vertical angle while installation because end of roof is looking at down. So need to use some V shaped plate between camera and a metal roof I think.

Need to have a waterproof camera on my side to check this custom installation and post here that it is possible and easy to use.

Thanks for your feedback. My car's antenna doesn't seem to have enough room for the cable to pass through the PCB. So I'm thinking of threading the cable through the gap next to the rear window.

So I think I can made a hole and going into a cabin.

If you want to use a gap between rear window and car trunk I worried about how to fix long cable on edge of rear window. I did not know another gaps between rear window and car body. Made a additional holes in rear window sealing rubber is not a good idea I suppose.

When the glass gets hot in the sun, it will expand, be careful of what you put in the expansion gap!

Maybe you could mount the shark fin on top of the camera, then both the shark fin and camera can use the same cable hole in the roof.
You would need to put a new case around the camera for the shark fin to sit on top of, but if you can get one 3D printed, or milled out of a plastic block, and can get some suitable waterproof seals, it might be a good solution.

I'm planning to use the gap next to the glass to route the cable to the trunk. The problem is that while thin cables can fit through the gap, the thick connector section doesn't.

The Vantrue S1 Pro Max cable is much thicker and stiffer, and pulling it inside the car seems much more problematic to me.
To pull the cable from Viofo, you can use an adapter, as in the photo in the post at the link below.
if you look closely, it has a lock nut with a washer on one end, which allows you to secure it in the hole.

The RWC_400 has a built-in cable that is 50cm long. Is that not enough for you?

I plan to run the cable through the gap next to the glass. I can't fit the connector part. The cable from the waterproof camera needs to be at least 2.5 meters long to be able to run it through the gap next to the glass and into the trunk.

Thank`s for additional photos. But I live in a cold climate with snow winters. So I`m still planning to use roof antenna modification to avoid long cables outside a car.

Sorry for the inattention.
I thought you were installing a waterproof camera from an A329S.

May i ask why you would put it there and not somewhere more practical?

Don't you need sharkfin to receive radio reception?

Also I doubt those cameras are going to stay positioned. That bearing mount is 100% going to move around as you drive and hit potholes. I don't see this as the least bit practical.

My car's rear-view camera suffers from severe reflection when installed indoors, making it difficult to capture good images. I tried using a CPL filter, but that didn't solve the problem. So, I'd like to install it outdoors to achieve better image quality.

Why not mount by licenseplate area?

Is your vehicle tinted? Why not install near the front license plate or under the rearview mirror? I guarantee you that your mount on shark fin won't be stable with that bearing mount. I foresee it bouncing around and losing position during regular driving.

Yes, my car has dark tint. I really want to install it outside.

I would say you'd need to install on license plate somehow. On the roof, unless you can fix it with a flush mount, is going to get an image with lots of vibrations. Also, a camera mounted on the exterior is likely to get dirty while driving.
