Hello DashcamTalk community.

I am a 2 weeks proud owner of a Innovv C1 action cam , and must say congratulations to the development because it is indeed a stylish and impressive performing camera.

Now , I appeal to your experience in hope that someone could shed some light in my little misfortune.

I will try to keep this as brief and clear as possible.

Even from the start , the camera had a metallic rattling noise inside. Took it apart and to my surprise there was a extra mounting screw . Since it was already disassembled I added a 2mm thick AG Termopad (1.5W/mK) over the video processor to help dissipate the heat.

For the next days the camera performed excellent.

And now , my little misfortune:

I may have used a different USB data cable (was a simple accident) and suspect that I have damaged some components over the USB_DM track.

Took the camera apart again , set my multimeter to continuity to test the original cable and everything seems to be in order.
The other one has a totally different configuration. Pin2 and Pin3 ( from left to right pin1=GND) are connected. As a result I surged the USB data – with 5V.

The camera still works however it behaves a bit different.
It will charge normally, but it will not record on power. And also , it is not recognized as a mass storage device when connected to a computer.
All other functions are working properly.

In other words, it tries to switch to transfer mode but someway among the process the link is not achieved.

So I went back to square one and tried to identify what may have burned out.
From my experience, data transfer on most USB charged devices go trough 1-10Ohm resistor or some sort of RFC just to prevent overload.

I have spent a few hours under a magnifying glass and I am still unable to find where USB_DM and USB_DP lead to or what other components are involved until reaching pin F19 and G19 of the NT96650

Also , it seems that this video processor uses a 12k resistor to GND as a USB voltage reference.
Unable to find that one as well.

So far , these tracks (pin3 and pin4) go straight from the usb socket to a set bridge holes in the other side of the PCB ( located right near the negative terminal of the battery) and there I lost them. Makes me wonder if there are more then 2 layers involved on the mainboard.
Additionally, the black paint looks awesome but it my case it`s a bit of a nightmare.

If there is anyone who understands what I am dealing with, then your help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

you must have tried unplug battery, press reset button.. replug battery and press reset buton once again
otherwise it sounds you blew the input protection diode inside soc..
your C1 will still functional only without usb communication..
you can still take sd card out to read...update etc..as long as usb stil charging the battery.

@CTPAX0101, Seems like you are skilled and can do "Check and repair".

The attached is the sketch for pins, you can try to check against it.

Let's dig out what wrong there together.

I have only the #18, #26 cable pinouts, maybe can help. But I hope to be good for C1, C2, because C1 camera is working with this AV Cable too. For C3 for sure is not the same pinout because I already tested.

Thank you all for your kind support.

As I said , the camera does it`s primary function and it does not bother me to flip sd cards like casino chips in order to transfer data to my computer.

However, it has a slow charging rate and it`s near to impossible to use it as a dash camera. This is the main reason why I would like to restore it back to it`s former glory.

I took the liberty of snapping some pictures to the roots of my frustrations. : )

Unfortunaly I had to pan the camera at a slight angle in order to see the PCB tracks. (evelish black paint)

So , the USB Data tracks go from pin 3 and 4 of the connector ( thank you Rock) , than trough a set of bridge connectors to the other side of the PCB. (side B)

And after that , I can`t find any continuity what so ever.

My main question , what is the next component in line from those bridge connectors to the processor.

I will keep working on it and keep you posted of any new updates.

Again , Thank you all. Your help is most appreciated .

@CTPAX0101, you are doing very good job on that,
And to be honest, the questions you are asking are out of my knowledge box,
So, once you need the support, please specific it to be detailed for my easy understanding, that I can check with guys. :)

This will be probably my last post on this matter.

I figured out how what happened during my little cable accident and unfortunately the damage is beyond repair.

Hoppe that my mistake will be a advice for the other owners. Add a red sticker on the Innovv cable and try not mix it with other ones.

The USB Data tracks go directly from the connector to the NT96650 processor via a set of bridge connectors in the PCB. Now, keep in mind that this not just a double sided PCB, it has probably 3 layers or more but non the less , the tracks are between the surface layers making them a bit tricky to be identified.

In my case, USB Data + was shorted to ground.

I have tried to create a jumper track between the connector and USB-DP pin of the NT96650 but the short is eighter inside the internal structure of the processor or between BGA pins.

I have even tried a reflow (which is not a easy task due to the high risk of damaging the plastic connector of the ccd sensor)

In conclusion , my misfortune is a lost battle.

I really like this camera and already placed a second order on ebay.

It is indeed a well design action camera. From the quality of the CCD and it`s IR sensitivity to the performance of the video processor. It`s a very versatile camera.

Again, Congratulations to the Innovv development team.

And of course, many thanks to each one of you who tried to help me.

Thank You!

This is something that I've been meaning to do for a long time. Thanks for making the point crystal clear.

10 years, many dashcams
I have tied a loose knot on my cables from innovv to tell them apart from all the other USB cables that is draped over my computer case.

Perhaps i should clean a little up as there is some models witch i have several off ( mini USB and micro )

I would not tie a knot as the copper wires are very fragile..very....
use a sticker label
