So I followed the directions and put the electrostatic sticker on after removing the 1 side film, then removed 2 film, then wiped with promoter, then put the camera up. I pressed it for a few seconds and it fell off. But the electrostatic windshield film stayed permanently bond to the camera base. SO I grabbed the other base and tried again......same thing happened. Now I have to figure out how to get two more bases.

Should I just stick the camera base directly to the windshield when I get another camera base? The electrostatic film appears to be the issue.

I forgot to mention where I installed it which may be the problem, but I tried to install it behind the rear view mirror way up high on those little dots at the top middle of the windshield.

Electrostatic stickers are not good on top of dots, they work the same way as a suction cup, and the dots let the air get under them. You may still be able to stick your existing stickers to a bit of plane glass, or you may be able to peal the electrostatic sticker off the sticky pad, and then stick the sticky pad to the dots. unsticking the sticky pad will be easier with a bit of heat.

If you get a new sticky pad then I suggest sticking it straight to the clean glass, on top of the dots if you want. Standard 3M high strength sticky pads can be used, widely available.

Well who knew, I just installed my first ever Electrostatic sticker and what's with the sticky stuff on one side? 🤔

I put it on the windshield on the wrong side of the sticker and it fell off

So what is the Electrostatic part if it's really an adhesive bond?

They used to be purely electrostatic, then they gained a thin layer of some form of adhesive which I think was supposed to remove the inevitable bubbles. For dashcam use, the glue seems to have been increased, but I think it is there more to seal the edges than to hold the sticker onto the glass. I believe they actually work much like a suction cup, as soon as you let air in by lifting the edge, they will fail to hold the dashcam, as long as they are sealed around the edges then they will hold 1Kg/cm², plenty for any dashcam. I think they do still have a static cling when you first apply them.

So I assume they are one-time use?
It really grabbed well once I installed the correct side to the glass.

It reminded me of applying a screensaver to a phone display, it looks like the adhesive spreads and "grabs" at the glass but maybe that's the air being forced out?

Generally they are one use, although I have used some several times within a few weeks of removing the protective film, but I don't think those were Viofo ones.

I think the glue stops working after being exposed to air for a while and then they don't seal around the edges, genuine static stickers were always one use too except to reposition them if you got it slightly wrong, I assume they also had a very thin layer of the glue.

Yes, they grab well, and come back off easily and cleanly.

I think the phone ones are the same, if you get a bubble of air under them then it disappears over time too.
