I thought I would introduce myself since I sometimes get questions on why I started this site.

I'm just an regular guy from Toronto, Ontario, Canada who got interested in dash cams during the spring of 2012. There are a lot of insurance scams and staged accidents in Toronto. We have the highest insurance rates in Canada and I believe in North America as well. Since I was hearing more about dash cams, I thought it would be a neat feature to add to my car to protect against these types of scams. Also to have proof in case an accident occurs and the other driver is less than honest.

Whenever I purchase something, I like to do a lot of research to make sure I am getting the most bang for my buck. Usually this is very easy on most products since there is a lot of information available on the internet (cars, major appliances, consumer cameras, etc.). But when I started researching dash cams, this was not the case. Very little unbiased reviews existed. Many models had fakes and it was nearly impossible to tell them apart. It was difficult to determine what vendor was reputable and which ones were not. But I did not give up and kept researching. I spent hundreds of hours going over every site I could find learning everything I could about dash cams. I then purchased my first dash cam based on this research and was very pleased with the purchase.

I then realized, that others were probably having the same issue as me when researching these cams. Hence in the summer of 2012 I started the site. Really to share what I learned from all this research seeing that it could help others. I try to be as honest as possible and point out flaws as well as positive aspects of each camera. I also started a forum because I was hoping when someone purchases a dash cam, they could share a real review on the camera. What they liked / didn't like, how it performs. I feel these real user reviews give more insight into the quality and usability of the dash cam, over professional reviews.

I am not an expert on dash cams. I actually know a small amount information on a lot of cams because I like to research. There are many here who have much more in depth knowledge on specific cams. So if you find any incorrect information on the site, please point it out and I will attempt to fix it.

I'll try to answer some common questions I usually get:

What is your real name?
I have decided not to reveal my real name since this is just a hobby for me. I have a full time job and don't want the site to interfere with it in any way. Maybe this will change in the future, but for now I am DashCamMan.

Do you accept dash cams from manufacturers or retailers?
No. Every dash cam I own has been purchased with my own money. I want this site to be as unbiased as possible. Accepting free cameras could lead to biased information. Also there is no guarantee that the camera sent from the manufacturer is not a "ringer" with better specs. If a manufacturer would like to send a free sample, I could direct them to some forum members to do a review.

Which dash cam is the best?
This depends on your needs. Check out the dash cam comparison page and read the forum to see which one is best suited for you.

Are you Russian?
No
