Is 128gb SD card really the maximum size for Nextbase 522GW?

Does anyone have any experience of using a larger than recommended SD card?

I have a Nextbase 522GW with rear camera and currently use a 32gb card. Latest firmware.

I'm aware that the card needs to be good quality and Class 10/ U3 minimum standard, but I don't understand why
there should be a 128gb size limit. (I'm not that technical - there may be a perfectly feasible explanation.)

I am aware that Nextbase don't sell their own branded cards in sizes larger than 128gb, but is there a technical reason why a 256gb card, for example,
will not work, or has anyone used a larger card without any problems?

I've asked Nextbase and they cannot (or will not) give me an answer.

Thanks

Thank you. there's some interesting comments there, if a bit speculative. Maybe I should opt for the approved 128gb card....

I would, but there are plenty of cases where a larger card works even though its not listed to work.

Maybe worth a go...if I've got something else that I can use the card in if it doesn't work!

I can confirm that a 256GB card will work.
I used Lexar 256GB High Performance Micro SDXC TF Memory Card UHS-I U3 Adapter 95MB/s .
It formats OK and shows SD card size as 235.4GB exFAT.
Look under settings/setup/swipe/system info/swipe.

Can someone try a 512GB card?

If you wondered why I use this name, it's because my name is Pierre and I live in France!

Hi there,

We only sell up to 128GB micro SD cards as we have only designed, created, tested and guaranteed our SD cards for full functionality up to 128GB.
A 256GB SD card may work if you format it within our Dash Cams, but we can't guarantee it's functionality or longevity.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Millie- Nextbase

Based on your advice, I put a 256 GB card in my Nextbase 522GW over the weekend and it's working just fine. I used the Vantrue 256 GB MicroSDXC UHS-I U3 V30 Class 10 card. I'll experiment with a 512 GB card soon.

I'm looking forward to your 512 GB test.

256 GB works just fine, using SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB 170MB-s A2 C10 V30 UHS-I U3

Hello
can someone recommend me a memory card which will actually work with 522gw with the rear cam attached?
i have selected a few and if someone has tried them with the rear can. would be great

https://www.mymemory.co.uk/mymemory...sd-card-sdxc-a1-uhs-1-u3-adapter-100mb-s.html ( the write speed is up to 50mb)

The one I have works fine in my Blackvue 750 2CH

I’ve just become a member as I’ve bought 2x Nextbase 522GW plus rear cameras a few days ago & need to buy cards. I thought that the Nextbase branded cards were too expensive so did some research & bought 2x Samsung EVO Plus 256GB cards but they turned out to be fake. The 522 told me that they weren’t class 10 card so wouldn’t record &, when I formatted them on my Macbook, reported a capacity of 268GB. Also, the write speed was around 9MB/s, read around 14MB/s. The card was manufactured poorly with rough surfaces & the print quality wasn’t as sharp as the genuine cards that I now have (Amazon’s ‘Select’ version of Samsung’s EVO Plus). The edge was coloured black but genuine cards have a white edge. Pictures attached.

Just like raparks posted here in March, the Select cards work fine. I set my 522GW (inc rear camera) recording for a couple of days then put the card into my Macbook, it had filled up to the right capacity & all the video clips & photos were ok. Might get a 512GB Select & see if the 522GW will take it. The Amazon ASIN (their stock number) for the cards I bought is B085FGBBQT.

You need to be very careful where you buy cards from.

Ebay - No
Amazon Marketplace - No

Fulfilled by Amazon - Yes
Scan UK -Yes

I think MyMemory and MrMemory are OK.

Then you need to check them. What's the prog name K?

Something like H2testw is the favourite

Thanks for the heads-up on suppliers & the test program - I’ll using be that in future. I was going to contact the seller of the fake cards to say thanks for flogging me fakes & wasting my time, however, I‘m hoping that my review (pretty much what I wrote above) will be seen by other potential buyers & that they’ll look elsewhere. Turns out, another duped buyer wrote a review saying fake as well. Buyer beware, I suppose.
