I just want to give everyone here the break down as to why I ask whether or not a Dash Cam is my best option. I know the screens the super small, but from what I gather, there are a few good cameras(like GoPro's, technically not a dash cam) that can have the HD video streamed to an external monitor.
I have a condition called Ankylosing Spondylitis. My neck is fully fused. I am unable to turn my head the slightest bit. I can't move it up, down, or to either side. So to put it simply, when at stop signs, I can not turn my head to see traffic coming from the left or right. Now my vocational rehab driving specialist tried to get me to use those mirrors like 18 wheelers and a school bus use, but those mirrors distort the oncoming traffic. They make them appear further away than they actually are.
I've tried using flush mount cameras and a few other tiny cameras that stream to external monitors. They're mostly RCA/VGA type cameras. The quality is extremely bad. I don't feel safe on the road and I certainly don't feel others are safe and that's my main priority.
I'm wondering if there are some great HD quality cameras, like dash cams or anything else that someone can recommend, that can be streamed live to an external monitor. I currently use a 9" external monitor with blind spot cameras, and they work great. I'm planning on installing a 2nd 9" monitor and that way I can have a camera displayed on 1 monitor looking left and a 2nd displayed on a monitor looking right.
So that's why I ask if a dash cam is the best option. There are some really great HD dash cameras from what I saw. I'm curious if any of those can be streamed live via a HDMI cable to an external monitor? Recording or not recording doesn't really matter. I can always buy a separate dash cam to record for driving safety and accidental purposes, but my main priority right now is getting it setup so I can officially drive again.
So with that being said, are there dash cams that can do what I'm looking for? Is it the best option considering the quality from those RCA/VGA cameras are poor? Can anyone recommend suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help.
