My several year old SGGCX2PRO+ camera images now look like the image below. Is it toast? I'm pretty sure I didn't click any "make everything like the surface of the sun" button.

I have a sneaky feeling your image sensor is on the way out, of the solar system CUZ it is apparently on Mars at the moment.

Yea, kinda had a feeling. I would love to replace it with the same one again, but I just read about Jokiin passing away and it seems that model is no longer available. I guess I'm on the hunt for a new 2 channel system.

Yes we sadly lost Jokiin / Rick.

But there are other good brands, and technoly are leagues ahead of the CX2PRO+ these days, you even stand a chance of a plate capture on a oncoming car,,,,, at night.
And of course there is the resolution bump, today you can get dual 4K systems

US distributor shows it being available.

You should take a look at the new Viofo - Vantrue and even 70mai cameras.
I am currently sampling two dual 4K systems in the form of the T800 from 70mai and the Vantrue S1 PRO Max

Hmmm... I would rather just buy a new SGGCX2PRO+ because I've already got the rear camera and the cables already in the car. If I knew these used the same mounts and was just plug and play I would be interested.

Interesting. All I need is decent resolution, but more importantly low power consumption in parking mode. Reading license plates isn't a necessity; I just want a record of events to show whose fault the accident is. Any suggestions? I was looking at Viofo A229 plus, but that was just the first camera I looked at.

Oops. sorry - posted the wrong link. X2Pro+ is listed as well. Doesn't mention the rear camera being available but I would think you may not need a new one if it's just the sensor in the main unit failing. You could message https://ocdtronic.com/product-tag/street-guardian-dash-cam/ (the partner company) to see what may be available.

I would try reseating the ribbon cable to the sensor before giving up on it, does look more like a sensor fault, but might be worth a try.

The A229 Plus is probably a good choice, the 4K cameras use more power, so give less parking mode, unless you go for the new A329S and use the Low Power Impact Detection parking mode. The extra power also gets turned into heat, which is not good for parking mode in hot places. The A229 Plus is well proven now.

X2Pro+ is listed, but not available for sale that I can see. I will message them anyway to see what they have.

Bummer. Looks like the SG product line and company are in a holding pattern. Sad.

I took the CPLs off the front and rear cameras, and look what I found. I was not expecting this. I had no idea the filters could degrade/become orange over time.

^Define irony:

When UV rays destroy your UV filter? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Several years you say? Well, at least a new filter is a lot cheaper than a new cam. That also speaks well for the cam.

That would certainly explain a 'little bit' of a color cast. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have you tried to clean it on the off chance it's just surface contamination?

My SG CPLs have been in the car for years as well but garaged so they're not exposed to UV for outrageous periods of time.

Just tried cleaning it and there was no change. It's possible this one is from an older Viofo camera, so it might have a few more years of use but I can't be sure.

There was another thread with the same problem, a few years ago. I think there mustโ€™ve been a dodgy batch of SG CPLโ€™s at some point.
