Car 02 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI (UK) Recently bought Mini 0801 dashcam with GPS block stuck to windscreen hardwired to fusebox, firmware version is 20140906. How can I get this to show gps data on playback with map, speed etc? GPS worked fine for the first week then stopped showing up on playback on my PC. I use Datak Registrator latest version.

During playback the video looks fine, the googlemap appears on the right but does not indicate location on car or the route taken, speed indicator show zero and doesn't move.

The GPS folder is filled with log files to match each movie clip, type of gps file it Text Doc, is this normal filetype?

This afternoon I reformatted the 32 gb class 6 sd micro card and reset the camera back to default factory settings via the dascam menu, took car out for a couple of hours and still has not recorded gps. I did press the down arrow button on the mini 0801 to lock the current file being recorded, this DID show GPS Data.

I tried the DVR.EXE that is on the camera, the movie files load in but in the column for the GPS file is say's Unavailable. The file does exist in the GPS Folder. On thte right of the video display wher the map should be it displays a message in red "ERROR: The information in GPS route file is unavailable!"

Has my GPS unit died on me?

My Garmin Satnav has no problems picking up GPS signal so I don't see a problem with the car blocking a signal.
I'd appreciate someone checking my menu settings and see if one of my settings might prevent the GPS from working properly.

Current Menu settings are :

Thanks for looking, it's all double dutch to me :)

Well that tells me that your camera is talking to the gps module but the gps module can't hear the satellites - the V should change to an A when it can hear the satellites and there would be lots of numbers between the ,,,,, .

It might be worth trying it with the gps base outside the car just to prove the signal isn't being blocked by a heated windscreen or metalized IR reflection glass. Normally one of those is what causes your situation, normally it's a heated windscreen on a Ford Focus, but you said it did work at one time?...

Unless the 0801 is different to the 0803 in which case my interpretation of the file might be wrong!

Your satnav might not be so close to the glass, or in a gap which isn't blocked by heater wires so the gps signal can get to that.

Thanks Nigel, I'll give that a try tomorrow in daylight, getting the sticky pads of windscreen should be fun, I'm sure I seen a video using dental floor

Warm the glass up a bit with a hair drier set to warm then get some string/fishing line/dental floss under the base and try to pull it off, it may come off with the pad intact and reusable, otherwise you will have to saw it off with the string. Don't over do the heat or you might shatter the glass!

Hi Auld Reekie
I have the same problem on my mini 0805 dash cam
Same as you it worked in the beginning left it in the car for about 6week as one does, its only there to record an
accident or some wrong doing. Have just took it out to have a play with it and found the same prob that you have.
The guy I bought it from (mini 0805) a brit seller name Lee very obliging guy sent me another transponder free of charge along with some ideas. But what I did fined out, of a list of nearly 200 clips in the middle there were about 20 clips that were available to the GPS route file. Now I find that very strange and on these clips using the maps button instead of the satellite button, the green line was not accurate to the road it was about 300 yard out of true and showed the car going off road traveling over rooftop snorkeling down rivers plowing through fields some part of the green line evan went haywire ie up down left right in the space of about 100 yards when I was going in a straight line.
Am going for a long trip in the next few days so will be traveling through a lot of different co-ordinates. Will format the card before I go and see what the results are when I get back. Might be that the military want to throw a spanner in the works for terrorists
The car is a Ford Kuga all singing all dancing SUV

Might have something to do with all the wires in your heated windscreen. Have you mounted it behind the wires where it is shielded from the GPS signal or in a clear area where it can see the satellites?

Symptoms point toward it being poor signal related, if the vehicle has an athermic windscreen or as Nigel has pointed out heating elements this will be enough to cause problems like this

Hi Nigel
Might be a problem to see where the limitation of the wires are. But don't forget the cam has worked and I haven't changed the position of the transponder. The plot thickens

Advice sought please.. My Mini 0801 which I have had for a number of years (and has had a few battery replacements done by myself) has worked fine but now the GPS time/date/ continually resets to factory default settings every time I try resetting the time zone, year, month, day, hour and minutes. As soon as I come out of the settings and start recording the date on screen keeps showing factory default date 1st January either 1970 or sometimes 2013. I have carried out firmware updates however the GPS time settings still keeps defaulting.. Done a default reset but still the same outcome... Could it be that I need to change the internal battery again as it is about a year or more old?.. I have also tried a few different Mini 0801 GPS mounts in case it was something to do with the GPS mounts but GPS dates/times still defaults on the various GPS mounts.. My main front camera is a Viofo A119S which is brilliant.. nearly 2 years old and never had a problem including easy to install firmware upgrades. The Mini 0801 is for my rear windscreen.. Thanks for any possible solutions.......

I haven't seen one of these inside for a long time and don't recall if they do or not but does it have an RTC battery on the mainboard?

No; just a rectangular 3.7V lithium battery... I don`t know if I replace that with a new one whether it would rectify the problem..?

We have the upgrade version mini0801S, power by Super Capacitors, more safety and long life than battery.

Thanks Joklin and Bella...I just cracked open the unit and removed the old swollen lithium battery and re-soldered a brand new lithium battery and reassembled it and charged it for an hour.. It has now solved the GPS time problem and is correctly saving the GPS time/date when switched off and back on again.. Running on OJOCAM 20140404 firmware.
