I don't want to continue my thoughts on this dashcam in the thread on the suction mount....so here's my thoughts.

I haven't used the camera yet, so I will follow up later after the first few uses, maybe others can chime in and point out things as well that can clear up any issues I may have.

First off, no suction mount. Looks like I need to use an aftermarket mount which a good link to one was provided.

There's two mounts, one flat and one angled. The flat mount seems to allow the rotating frame of the lens to contact the glass. When mounting in a road tractor or similiar with a near vertical glass, that's a problem.

The rotating lens has detents, but also has free movement between clicks, hopefully with bumps the camera doesn't rotate while driving, commercial vehicles don't have the smoothest ride. I'm going to go with the fact this was taken into consideration so I'm not going to fault the dashcam as of yet.

Looking forward to the footage, I was using the Dexors X7 which has a fantastic mounting system with very, very strong holding power of the suction mount. The mount is one small shortcoming of the Street Guardian IMHO, but I think I will be able to make this work as others seem to have as well.

You may find the detents don't allow you to align the lens exactly where you want it (as was the case with me). A solution is to get the alignment where you want it then use tape (electrical, friction, etc.) on the adjustment knobs to hold the position.

On the V1 i found right on the click it never seemed to be on the sweet spot in my car, but there is a little play on each "level" so i have been able to make fine adjustments by pressing lens up or down, and it stay there.
But off course i am not driving a commercial vehicle, but i dont think thats a issue, i dont nurse my suspension and even bumpy forest tracks are not able to wiggle lens out of alignment.
My tires are inflated for mileage and not comfort, and it is a cheapo car i have so it was never good to start with.

The Escort mount arrived today, seems well built.

At first it appears the mount won't work, but the flat surface can be removed and flipped over as both edges of the bolt hole have serrated edges to lock into place when tightened.

The adhesive seems plenty sticky, the Escort clears the wires, and I cut some of the protective film to cover the exposed areas.

I'll use it tonight and hopefully get some footage posted, also try to compare it to my Dexors X7.

Something I forgot to ask.....does the Street Guardian come with a remote microphone? I have a GPS antenna, short 3.5mm extension cord...but no external mic....but have a port for it.

No

That's an extension for the optional A/V out.

Ok, thanks.

Well, I ended up in a different vehicle last night, only could use one dashcam so I used the Street Guardian. I want to post a video but I have a question about rendering the video....what settings or template should I use to get the best picture quality?

I tried Sony AVC/MVC mp4 1920x1080, my Sony Vegas 14 has many options so I want to see what others use for best rendering quality.

I try to use a direct copy wherever possible to minimise loss of quality. I find Avidemux is good for creating a short clip from a 3min file.

I tried to open the viewer, keep getting this:

I had to block some of the title.

I'm also using Win 10.

Ok, thanks...I will try that.

Sorry for the delay, here's two clips, one from the X7 and one from the 9665. There is no post-processing, I only changed the levels from Computer RGB to Studio RGB in my Vegas editing software so the contrast levels weren't blown out.

The 9665 has better low-light performance as expected, this is with no street lights and is almost the darkest area of my driving. My concern is what appears to be a number of hot or bad pixels in the 9665, perhaps this can be corrected, also the highlights are washed out. This was taken at 0EV so maybe it needs -.3, not sure.

The Dexors was recorded in 2K and downsized to 1920x1080, both are 30P. I didn't use the GPS to minimize the number of wires.

I'll post a daylight clip tomorrow.

I just sent a private message with pixel re-Calibration instructions to mask hot pixels at night. Check your inbox.

The challenge with calibration is when they are done in the factory on a brand new sensor and not every bright pixel shows up in such a short time

@jokiin once said:
"as an FYI all sensors have this, Sony acknowledge that it is impossible to avoid based on current manufacturing technology and consider it to be normal, there are other variables as well, see below

the calibration process (calibration is probably an inaccurate description but that's how it is termed) does not actually calibrate the sensor but masks the effect by mapping which pixels show this issue and when the pixels around the affected pixel are dark or light (whichever the case may be) turn off the affected pixel, we have tried an automated process to dynamically mask the pixels as that is an available option in the SDK but we found that when we used it there was a negative impact on overall image quality, it does work fine on some other model sensors so maybe it's something that can be improved, We questioned the engineer about this and the answer was still to do it manually as there hadn't been any progress made on the automated method"

I was reviewing night videos from my V3, and have noticed that they are grossly overexposed with default settings. I guess I need to turn WDR off and adjust EV down?
