finally fixed the "lcd off" feature and got rid of the bright pink clock on all the time.

While opening it up, i also realized that the heat spreader (the metal you can see there, which would be under the LCD) was NOT touching the CPU thermal pad! there was over 1mm of gap.

that lack of quality control and probably a bad batch of cheap thermal pad may be the problem with everyone getting even more noise than normal after 20min!

anyway, to also solve that, i put a piece of foam pushing the heat shield down. if that even is a heatsink... i assume so because of the thermal pad... anyway, i also removed the sticker and drilled a few holes on the bottom to help with that.

only dumb thing i did, was to not properly record the key presses needed for somethings, like turning wifi on/off. and formatting SD card.

if anyone can type those here pls. i tried turning lcd on by
power on -> power/setting -> right button 4x -> power/setting -> rec/back

but it did not work. don't know if the first right button press change from resolution to the next or just move the cursor to resolution.

That metal is not a heat spreader which is why it doesn't touch the processor, it's there to shield against interference

i see.

it may... it should have been both a heatsink and a radio shield... that hole on the tape, plus the thermal pad led me to believe it was designed as a heat sink too. though, the top of the thermal pad on the cpu still have it's own electrical tape on top!!! i am guessing bad assembly/quality control.

So, i cannot even begin to imagine why someone added a thermal pad, without removing the other end of the protecting sticker... and why they would even cut the square above the CPU... also, why not use a free heatsink?!?! i know i am removing the top tape from my cpu and letting it glue to that heatsink/shield pane. no harm on that.

black tape on top of the white thermal pad on the cpu.

yeah, we will never know.

well, just for kicks, here is my black camera. just painted the front when i opened it up earlier today with some can i had of high temperature (gona need it :) matte black paint

had no idea why i masked out the inner ring of the lens case... i thought it was going to affect fit... i'm a moron.

If that was designed to touch against the CPU to act as a heatsink then when they added the constant clock in the newer firmware updates that would have mean that even more heat from the LCD being constantly on would be going back to the CPU and just exacerbating the heat issues they have. Oops.

Hello friend it sound like you knowing what to doing to improving the heat dissipation ability for Yi dash cam. If you can provide perhaps some instruction for reducing internal heat build up that I can DIY that would be neat, and cool (assume all responsibility and risks for personal). I think I starting with drilling more holes on the bottom!
