Since I now have a hardwired Viofo A129 Duo with parking mode enabled that continuously records 24/7, I did some research to find what high endurance and high capacity microSD cards are available. High endurance memory cards are needed because they are designed for long duration continuous loop recording, which regular SD cards are not designed and will likely crap out much quicker. I'm searching for a 256 GB high endurance card because the A129's parking mode is about 4 mbps (with firmware v1.5, regardless of scene, day or night, with or without movement) which will fill up a 64 GB card in about 18 hours. From my research, only WD offers 256 GB but it's pricy and I haven't found any reputable vendors other than the manufacturer's website.

I looked for manufacturers that marketed their microSD cards for continuous video recording (such as in dash cameras or network cameras) and only found Trancend, Sandisk, Samsung and Western Digital (WD). I also looked at Kingston, PNY, Sony, Lexar, and Delkin, but did not see anything mentioning continuous video recording.

I feel like Trancend High Endurance is the “gold standard” because they’re the only manufacturer that provides detailed specifications that include what kind of flash memory (MLC, the better kind that you want) is inside their cards.

From my personal experience, I’ve never had corruption or had to reformat one of their SD cards due to a problem. I have two 64 GB Trancend High Endurance cards (silver colored version, the previous version to the gold and black color version) that I’ve used it for several years in two A119s and now use one of these cards is in my A129.

Any card that is Class 10 or UHS-I U1 is guaranteed to write at least 10 MB/s (that's 80 megabits/second) which is plenty fast for any sincle or dual 1080p or 2K dash cam. It's probably fine for 4K too, unless the total recorded bitrate approaches 80 mbps.

You want to purchase from a reputable source because counterfeit cards are everywhere. Don't buy from eBay or AliExpress, and don't buy used. To minimize risk on Amazon, only buy direct -- when it says “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com." Do not buy when it says it's fulfilled through Amazon by some third-party vendor.

Feel free to sticky this if it’s useful. Information is as of December 24, 2018. Merry Christmas!

All else being equal, a larger card will last longer than a smaller card. Just because you don't write the same sector as often in a larger card.

That's a good point that I didn't consider. A 256 GB card should last four times as long as a 64 GB card. But there are also four times as many bits to fail! Not sure how NAND flash fails though and how the controller handles faults.

are any of these known to work well in nextbase cameras? Not sure why but they do seem fussy about the cards they use

I have ordered one of these from MyMemory (a reputed seller). High Endurance, U3, good price.

Silicon Power MLC High Endurance microSD cards: 32Gb (6000 hrs) / 64Gb (12000 hrs)

Viofo MLC microSD cards: 32Gb / 64Gb

I've seen Silicon Power before on Amazon or NewEgg and I thought it was another China knockoff but they look like a legit Taiwanese brand.

Integral looks like a decent UK company.

Unfortunately neither has any high endurance cards larger than 64 GB. :(

I am using an Integral High Endurance 64GB in my Nextbase 512, just for a week, but it has been perfect so far.
