Looking for a 4-channel dashcam setup for driving + multi-day parking in Austria

Thanks, I’ll have a look at the E360 as well. The easy installation is interesting, although night performance and parking-mode efficiency are pretty important for me, so I’m not sure it would be the best fit.

The Android HU + 4-camera idea is interesting too, but I’d prefer to keep the setup as simple and reliable as possible.
for the night or dark performance I'd recommend outside mounted cameras, as internal cameras performance is badly impacted by windows, especially tinted, also reflections.
which leads to Android HU or DVR with 4 external cameras for 360 recording. Also impact detection sensors will be needed to properly mark recordings.
Research about how Tesla cars do it and aftermarket 360 bird view recording.

I don't see how car inside dashcam can be good in the dark.
Any IR LEDs will just reflect back from a window, making it worse.
Outside camera with IR will work, so back to outside camera setup.

Its all about trade off and your personal priorities.

Yeah, that makes sense. The reflections and IR bouncing off the windows are definitely the main downside of keeping the side cameras inside.

I should add that my C3 doesn’t have tinted windows, so that should help a bit. And here in Europe, especially for the front side windows, there are fairly strict limits on how dark they can legally be anyway.

External cameras would clearly give the better night image, but I’m still a bit hesitant because of weather, car washes, vandalism and the extra wiring.

So I guess it really comes down to how much night performance I’m willing to trade for a cleaner and more protected installation. I’ll also have a look at the Tesla-style 360° aftermarket systems you mentioned.

Night performance, but you will of course still need some light around to be able to see anything in the footage, but with modern systems a nearby street light is often enough.

Some towns have ambient light levels at night that surpass Danish daytime light levels during winter.
My god how i hate LED billboards / light pollution in general.

You need to disable the infrared illumination on the cabin-facing cameras that point outwards, and then there won't be any problems.

Just because someone cannot imagine how a dash cam can record well in the dark, it does not mean the device is incapable of doing so.

This applies to both driving mode recording and parking mode recording.

Below are a couple of clips showing how a dash cam records in parking mode at night—footage captured eight years ago.

Thanks, those examples are reassuring. I hadn’t considered simply disabling the IR illumination when the cabin cameras are pointed through the windows.

Since my C3 doesn’t have tinted windows and is usually parked somewhere with at least some street lighting, keeping the side cameras inside looks more realistic than I first thought.

Aw man, i just got me the a329S, but it was a great deal.
C'mon brother I thought we agreed to wait until October 1? lol
Return / Refund?

You have to be careful with " night vision " dashcams.
This generally mean they will have a couple of weak IR emitters which is just about fine for lighting up a car interior, or if turned towards something reflective completely blind itself.
I think to this day some will still sell these "night vision " dashcams where the main camera are also flanked by some IR emitters, and it is still just as useless.

In honest it mean that systems have a good enough sensor to be able to capture something with very little light available, and technology is now there, at least for the most popular sensors in use.
But you do still need a little ambient light, they are not wonder cameras that can do without light.

Also the ever present problem with parking guard, anything like dew / rain on your glass and you will not get much captured of value, hence why i so like my CCTV camera on the balcony door aimed at my parked car in the back yard.
It also have optical zoom so on the 20 - 25 M distance i am actually able to get a identifying shot of someone right next to my car.

Ah i dont live in a City, i just park in a city, as i wrote for my military duty, or later for work. But at home there are like 10 people in my neighbourhood and everyone knows everyone.

Yeah, 4CH is still the goal. The A329S was simply too good a deal to pass up and I needed something now.
If the T340 turns out to be significantly better for my use case, I’ll probably pass or resell the A329S on to a family member.
For now I’ll test the side-camera setup with IR off and see how well it works.

Now that the T340 specs are out, I actually feel a bit better about buying the A329S.

The T340 is 4CH, but it looks like one channel is permanently taken by the built-in IR cabin camera, so it isn’t really a “4 freely configurable camera” system. My original idea was front + left side + right side + rear, so the A329S with external RCC360 cameras is still more flexible for that kind of setup.

Also, the A329S keeps the display and SSD support, which the T340 doesn’t seem to have.

Does anyone know if the T340 can use an RCC360 or another external camera instead of the built-in cabin channel, or is that channel fixed?

The built-in cabin channel is fixed

You just made me realize something.
What if instead of T340 having a built-in Interior Camera it was the Telephoto that was built into the front main / unit? 🤯
That would be awesome!
But I'm sure it would create too much heat, or there's not enough room for the 4x "long lens" on the Telephoto image sensor.

Are you saying connect (2) additional RCC360 IR Interior Cameras to T340 front / main unit?
That's one of my "modularity" questions in my VIOFO T340 4CH - Q&A POST
