Review:
Up for review is my first ever 2 channel dashcam system, the LK-9370WD made by Lukas (Qrontech). Lukas is a korean company that has been in the dashcam business since the beginning and was a competitor to the original Blackvue dashcams. Lukas has a very good track record for producing feature-rich and reliable dashcams. Lukas nomenclature is straightforward -- W stands for wifi and D(UO) stands for dual channel.
The LK-9370WD features the Texas Instruments TMS320DM8148 chip which is a newer module than that used in the iTronics ITB-100HD. Front and rear cameras both use Sony Exmor IMX322 sensors, which is a rare feature in a dual camera system. Typically, the rear cameras in dual channel systems are spec'ed with inferior hardware. With this model, I expect similar video quality from front and rear.
The LK-9370WD has a ton of features, more than I've ever seen in any other dashcam... ever. In addition to standard functions, the LK-9370WD features built-in dual band GPS (GPS + GLONASS), a 3-axis gravity/impact sensor, as well as true motion detection and parking mode (records and saves footage from 10s before and 20s after event*). The dual SD/save function allows you to set how much SD card space to allocate between regular driving vs parking mode. The microSD is reserved for redundancy where the camera will automatically duplicate and save clips identified to be events*. This unit also has a built-in low voltage and timer cut-off function (ie. built-in hardwire kit).
The touchscreen integration is extremely well thought out and actually has a lot of utility in the LK-9370WD. Everything can be controlled via the 3.5" LCD touchscreen. As a 2 channel system, you can view the live feed from both cameras at the same time (in various modes like split screen, adjustable picture-in-picture, etc.). I even use the live feed as an occasional back up camera. Most importantly, the LCD allows you to control all the settings and preferences on-the-fly. There really are tons of settings that can be modified (ie. parking mode, motion detection, dual save settings, etc.) and requiring access to a computer, even to change one parameter, is an inconvenience.
‘Lukas Eye’ is Lukas’ own WiFi app designed for pairing with their dashcam units. The app allows you to stream/delete/download footage as well as modify camera settings. Likewise, Lukas also has their own video player (Windows and OSX) for ease of viewing videos and synchronized GPS data together.
Video output from the LK-9370WD is fairly decent, especially for a 2 channel system. Not the best image quality by 2016 standards, however, there aren't any 2 channel systems that can match the video quality of a high-end 1 channel dashcam. Day and night footage are both reasonably clear without motion blur; license plates are easily made out. I would say the video quality is comparable to that of the iTronics ITB-100HD; I know some of us like to use that unit as a benchmark.
There aren’t any major flaws with this unit. The front unit from this camera has a bright silver faceplate with a large foot print, which I'm not a fan of. However, the rear camera is tiny enough not to obstruct rear visibility, as much as a single channel dashcam would.
At $379USD, it's not a dashcam priced for everyone, but comparable to other units if you were cross shopping for a similar 2 channel system from BlackVue, BlackSys, etc. Overall, the unit has a lot going for it. The LK-9370WD is an extremely feature rich dashcam and one that I would continue using based on features, ease of use, and reliability.
