She was hit hard.

And there is no telling what pedestrians might do, and some times its really brainless stuff, like running ( without looking ) onto a crowded street in rush houer to catch a bus on the other side of the street.
Its like ppl get so focussed on whatever and then disregard everything around them to do that 1 thing.
