Purchased from etoponline365 on eBay.com for $60 with the discount extended by the manufacturer to Mobius 2 owners.

Like
  • Form factor - Really like the matchbox design, extremely versatile, opens up a host of mounting options. Depending on how the Mobius cameras are mounted, even my wedge shaped cameras don't come close, as discreet as it can get.
  • Audio - Set to 'Medium' in mSetup, audio is loud and clear. No buzzing, crackling or hissing. First of the three Mobius models I'll be keeping the audio turned on.
  • USB port - USB connection is firm, the Mini USB connector almost clicks into the camera's Mini USB jack. (Maybe just because it's new.)
  • Rubberised casing - Like the M1, looks and feels nice to the touch.

Don't like
  • Withholding information about the chipset and sensor used. SPCA6350M + OV4689.
  • Light leaking - At night the power button LED inside the housing is clearly visible through the ventilation holes on the sides.
  • Placement of buttons - Pressing buttons when the camera is mounted is just as awkward as with the M1. Probably the only thing Mobius got right with the M2's design. Also there's hardly any tactile feel to the Mode and Record/Shutter buttons.
  • Absence of an indent for easy removal of the Micro SD card, c'mon!

Nitpicking
  • Too many beeps on shutdown, sounds like a warning routine.

Bug

Stops recording when switching from ACC or ON to Start with my diesel car. And this is with the battery!

The SG9665GC executes a soft reboot and starts recording immediately, A119 restarts and resumes recording, Maxi turns off.

How it's set up

Edit: 'Power-Off Disconnect' set to 2 seconds or more allows the maxi to keep recording when switching from ACC or ON to Start.

Can you spot a Mobius in the rearview mirror?

Audio test

White noise level is lower than the A119 & A119S and higher than the SG9665GC.

Maxi was powered using a hardwire kit, car was off. Micro SD card in use - Samsung EVO Plus U3 128GB.

Videos

Let's see how the stock B lens does before the new 5MP 8mm and 12mm telephoto lenses are mounted.

All "Advanced Image Settings" in mSetup are at their default values. Exposure Metering - Multi-Spot, Video Quality - Extreme Fine, Audio Recording Volume - Medium.

F.W V. 1.86 - 2704x1524 (2.7K). Bitrate - 60 Mbit/s. 3 minute file size - 1.36GB

Again as observed in the thread linked above, Multi-Spot darkens the image when vehicles in front get close, needs tweaking. Will try 'Centre-Weighted' next.

Looking forward to the diesel start-up issue and the excessive noise + green tint being corrected via a firmware update.

Overall I'm fairly pleased with the out-of-the-box performance. Glad to see Mobius going back to the formula that worked wonders for them.

SG9665GC keeps recording, A119 restarts and resumes recording, Maxi goes into standby.

How it's set up
If you change your power-off disconnect setting to something other than 'immediate', the camera will continue recording on its battery whilst the USB power supply from the car is interrupted during diesel engine startup.

I will test how well this works with a capacitor in the Maxi. Hopefully the capacitor can power the camera for 2 seconds to bridge the startup dower drop.

I'll try 2 seconds and report. With a capacitor the recommended setting has been 'Immediate'.

Yes, 'immediate' is the recommended setting when used with a capacitor. However I will also test '2 seconds' to see if it works.

2 seconds works, Maxi keeps recording.

Ok now I getting a little confused, shouldn't 'Immediate' with a battery behave like 'Immediate' with a capacitor?

Immediate shutdown is immediate shutdown, regardless of battery or capacitor

So if the firmware is tuned right; it shouldn't go into standby and keep recording or at least turn back on and resume recording. Right?

Mobius put a lot of effort into tuning the FW to ensure auto-record worked at startup, even with power interruptions.

Continuing or restarting recording when the power is interrupted may need further FW adjustment. I agree it should not go back into standby.

Can you please post screenshots of the video mode and image settings screens?

Not as severe but image darkens even with Centre-Weighted when vehicles in front get close.

BTW, any particular reason for going with Photo-Jpeg?

Asking because it's a pain. Can't strip audio without putting files through a video editor and Registrator Viewer refuses to recognise the format.

Are you referring to the video encoding in 2.7k mode? I understand the DSP is limited to 1080p60 in h264 mode, but it is evidently capable of higher resolution with mjpeg video.

There do appear to be some file compatibility issues with the mjpeg video. I normally clip video segments using avidemux, but it doesn't like the Maxi files either.
