Need Cam for Dash (NOT windshield)

I have to question the quoted Texas rule. It says
547.613. RESTRICTIONS ON WINDOWS. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person commits an offense that is a misdemeanor:

(1) if the person operates a motor vehicle that has an object or material that is placed on or attached to the windshield or side or rear window and that obstructs or reduces the operator's clear view.
Subsection (a) does not apply ... does not extend downward beyond the AS-1 line or more than five inches from the top of the windshield, whichever is closer to the top of the windshield.."

So, I contend if it is placed up high out of the operator's clear view like I have mine, above the "AS-1 line" and the camera is fully hidden by the sun visor when it's down, I just don't think there is a case there. Especially my new camera SG9665XS. It's small and low visibility. I sure ain't going to worry about it!

You can always run it with the display automatically turned off after so many seconds to not attract attention I assume most if not all dash cams have that feature.

With all the toll tags, registration stickers, parking permit tstickers on people's windshields, stuff hanging off the rear view mirror obviously obstructing the view etc. I think the likelihood of getting ticketed for a mere dash cam is highly unlikely.

I think that was written mostly for the window tint guys that were putting 20-30% tint on the entire windshield!

The only people that I'm aware of, who posted that they were ticketed for windshield mounts, were on motorhome/RV forums. That being said, it could well be that the individual may have had several other things on his windshield, too. The individual didn't say and nobody asked. But I've seen some motorhomes that had a plethora of devices attached to the windshield or vertical posts. I saw one class A motorhome that had a radar detector, two cameras, GPS, a braking monitor for the tow vehicle, and a couple of other such devices, all mounted on or around the windshield. It looked like he was trying to imitate a passenger jet ****pit. I can well imagine a disgruntled weigh-station officer, who is having family problems, looking at all that stuff and issuing the driver a ticket for obstructed view. As I said, I have no idea what the real circumstances were, in the situations that were posted on the RV forums. I'm just saying that motorhomes "can" present special cases. The only thing in my windshield will be the Escort 360 and the dashcam and where they are mounted will depend on the state we are in.
