I installed the A119 yesterday. It’s plugged into the adapter. It sometimes comes on when the car is turned on and some times doesn’t… or it will come on and then go off… or I can manually turn it on and it goes off within about 5 seconds. Any help would be appreciated. I attached a picture of the screen when I turned it on manually. It only stayed on about 3 seconds.

Which adapter and how did you provide power? Have you tried using the cigarette lighter adapter alone?

By going off, is it the screen that goes off, or does the unit entirely power down?

Also look at the options and see if you have Privacy Mode set. ( mostly about files )

I’m using the usb adapter that came with it. It has 2 inlets and plugs into the accessory plug on my dash. By going off, I mean it shuts down. The rec light goes off and the unit powers down. I’ll check the Privacy Mode, but why would that setting cause the unit to turn off intermittently?

What happens if you remove the memory card from the device? Does it stay on longer?

Does the dashcam keep recording after the screen goes off? If so, you might want to check your screen saver settings. Some VIOFO models have a screen saver that turns the screen off after a while, but the dashcam keeps recording just fine even when the screen is off.

No. As I said, it completely shuts down. Screen goes off and red light goes off. Screen saver is turned off.

The power cable you're using does not appear to be the Viofo cable that came with the camera. Is this an aftermarket cable? Is so, test with the supplied cable.

How do you power the camera? Please use the original car chager that came with the camera to supply power from your cigarette lighter directly to test.

Sound like there is a 2 output USB charger of the plug type, which Viofo might supply these days, i have not been privy to sampling their products lately.
But then Viofo should also supply a cable i am sure, but OP could have used another longer cable maybe ? and this can indeed be a problem especially if it is a cheap CCA cable.

Erratic behaviour like this is indeed often to blame on a insufficient power supply

Mind you there have also been cases of faltering power supplies and of course also the cameras them self, but these are a lot more rare then creative power sources people will deploy / reuse from a older system.

I suppose it could also be a issue with how the power source is seated in the dash 12 V socket, at least there have been cases like that though old now, try to gently wiggle the USB plug in the socket the next time the camera go out.
Maybe also gently Wiggle the plug that go into the camera to see if its maybe not proberly seated or in other ways have a flaky connection.

Very little, if it is a power issue; however, your post was not clear about the issue at hand. I was covering some bases. Use the supplied CLA and VIOFO wiring to test the camera. If this is a defective camera, you will need to prove you have used the factory-supplied equipment for the warranty replacement. Aftermarket cables and power adapters are problematic at times.

I suggest resetting the camera to default settings, it seems it is not working in normal recording, and use the supplied car charger adapter and cable.
