Novatek 96655 IMX322 two types of dash cams on sale for 9.99$ on Amazon (both confirmed legit and now sold out) --- Qige RS500 & R9S ( front and rear)

For me both dashcams are under one link, you just select the camera you want to buy.

mine shows car charger R9B and ACC 500, neither of which would have a cost low enough to be the price they're selling them for

You are right now it says 'car charger R9B' for me. Before it just said R9B.

I will try messaging the person about ACC500 to make sure it's a dashcam and not charger.

I have seen this type of bs before so I won't be completely surprised by a bait and switch. But it's on Amazon so it should be fine.

No idea how to get in touch with them but I did double check the ACC500 is a dashcam. There's no mention of it being a charger.

Also I think I figured out why you had it listed under a weird category. They are selling 2 different products.

I got QIGE camera today and its firmware and buttons are similar to my A307 with Novatek 96658 chipset.

It apparently is able to record onto a tiny internal memory drive perhaps as a buffer as you record over WIFI onto your cellphone. Which is interesting since I haven't encountered that before. I know DDPAI Mini 3 has a 32 gb internal memory but this is a different approach altogether.

Here are a couple better images with my s8 phone.

It does record at 10.7 MBPS at 1080P(1920x1080) x 30FPS though.

The camera can also record 1728 x 1296 x 30FPS at 10.7 MBPS

Quality is likely better at 1080P x 30 FPS

So for 10$ I'd say it's a win.

Edit:

A nice surprise is that the base is removable from the camera, in case you want to quickly remove and take the dashcam with you.

The camera does have a tiny 126 MAH battery. The camera turns off almost immediately once losing power (1 sec?).

The biggest things that annoyed me with this camera are the red button and reflective silver lens housing.

Only two screws hold the dashcam together and then 3 more screws hold the circuit board to the casing. I tried removing them but the camera sits firmly inside and I didn't want to risk breaking ports. I will be interested to see if I can bump up the MBPS to 20-36 that I have seen discussed on these forums. Novatek 96655 is capable of 20 mbps under all conditions and 36 with WIFI turned off?

Final image is a size comparison with my Mobius 2 with 25mm lens.

There's a clear defect with the screen. I noticed a couple deep scratches and top right corner has clear and green tape. It appears the green tape covers a small imperfection in the screen and cannot be removed. It is maybe 0.5 cm x 0.5 cm. The clear tape part is another small piece.
The green tape is supposed to be pulled to remove the screen protection.

The have probably clamped it under the case though - get a sharp knife and try to scratch it away from the corner, there will be a perfect screen underneath...

Nigel I thought the same thing but I couldn't do it with my nail and I was a bit uneasy doing it with anything sharper. Without a working WIFI, I'd hate to damage the screen. It really did look like someone screwed up and got that film stuck under the casing during assembly...
If it is under the casing then you will have great difficulty doing it with a nail, but a very sharp knife will catch and pull it, once you have a little bubble pulled up off the screen then you can easily do it without scratching the screen. Don't cut through it, just scrape it sideways, try to snag it.

Have you tried a wifi monitor app to see if it is transmitting? Maybe your phone is 5GHz only and this doesn't do 5GHz?

Nigel you were right. I used a tool to prop up the green piece and then used pliers to remove the film.

Any details in the manual about enabling wifi, button combination maybe? It may not be on all the time

Update:

I tried three cellphones and my old phone running 5.0 Android worked fine. So the dashcam is as described albeit a bit glitchy.

The WIFI only seems to work as the phone is recording. I am guessing it's a firmware issue?

The WIFI / MENU is very similar to my A307 dashcam so it's literally go into the menu and select WIFI ON / OFF and there's another separate option WIFI INFO which reminds you what the name of the WIFI and PW.

I do like some extra options in there. There's a PLATE option where you can select between AUTO, #, letters, etc. I left it on AUTO.

I ended up filing a bit of the silver on the lens housing and wrapping a bit of black tape which I like more. I wish dashcam manufactures would think a bit before making cameras bright colors, making red buttons, etc.

Update:

True to their manual/ad the camera only takes cards up to 32gb and a 64gb card formatted to FAT32 does not work and crashes the dashcam.

I was able to send a question regarding their R9S model to clarify whether it's a dashcam or just charger. I should get a response in a couple days. Apparently you can only contact the seller about an item you bought.

I will test the ACC/RS 500 dashcam today to verify its quality. For now it seems to be as described in every way.

So far the footage is mediocre. It is 1920x1080P at ~10.7MBPS bitrate(though a couple minutes went as high as 16MBPS). I will need to see if I can tweak any settings. I don't see any setting to change sharpness or area of focus (spot, center, etc).

The dashcam also badly needs a CPL filter.

I have a feeling this would be a great dashcam with a slightly better zoomed in lens(6-8mm).

I did notice under some conditions you can have the camera stay on with its 126MAH battery and it will last at least a few minutes. I got it to 2/3 discharged with about 50 sec of recording unplugged.

I got the following response from Qige Amazon seller regarding R9S..

"
Hi,

It's dashCamera and power by car charger

"

Here's my RS/ACC500 with 6mm f1.2 3MP lens with CPL filter.

After destroying three IR filters trying to remove them from other lenses, I was finally able to get it done with extended soak of the lens on acetone/nail polish remover. The filter fell off on its own after a couple hour soak. I then used medium strength blue loctite thread glue to secure the filter in my new lens. It is the one thing I didn't do for my A307 project.

I am really hating the gray visible tape for the mount (it is same one that came with my 1/4" mount). Does anyone know of a comparable black super strength double sides 3M tape? I have bought one but it's not even close to the same holding strength.

Here's a day time footage from today. I removed sound and VLC was able to compress 10.7MBPS to ~3MBPS. You can still read the plates.

It looks like 6mm might still be too short. I think something in the 8-10mm range might be perfect. So far I have tried 16mm and 25mm.

16mm is a bit too much and 25mm is not practical for dashcam. Even a 12mm effective focal length might be ok.

I have to keep in mind the various conversions due to differences in sensor size specifications of the lenses. I try to get it the same or larger to prevent vignetting but there's a crop factor on both focal length and aperture. So the f1.2 is not really a 1.2 here since there's a small crop making it act more like 1.4 and 6mm more like 7mm...

On a sadder note, I already ended up breaking my Qige RS500. As I was fiddling today with it I dropped it and then inserting the car charging cable the charging port came clean off inside(even ripping one copper wire off the board). I tried using loctite blue glue when I got home to see if it could keep it in place and get it to work. The camera did turn on afterwards. I immediately turned it off, carefully removed the cable and put epoxy (albeit making a mess inside). Hopefully it will work and keep the charging port more secure. If not, oh well.

I ended up removing the 6mm f1.2 lens from QIGE RC500 and putting it in my A307. For some reason it was MUCH harder to focus the lens. I tried screen, phone and even laptop. They have almost the same chipset and sensor so not sure why focusing was so much harder? I am thinking maybe the crop factor was different so on A307 F1.2 was pretty much the actual number where as on the RC500 it was closer to f1.4 due to crop....thoughts?

Ancaro it's solid. I love the form factor. The lens is sh itty though. The battery is soldered in a way where you could potentially put another one in there or even a capacitor. This dashcam has a ton of potential due to its chipset/sensor. That's the difference between cheaper dashcams and more expensive ones like street guardian. I am sure street guardian uses much better lenses and actually takes the time to make their firmware good. It's too bad they disabled the novatek command input.

Update:

Epoxy and loctite glue have fixed the RS500. It lives! It's amazing. I may need to see if I can get Explorer K fixed the same way.

Here's the same 6mm f1.2 1/2.5 3MP lens on my A307 Novatek 96658 Sony IMX323 dashcam. It looks like left side is out of focus? Any suggestions on what to do?

NIGHT TIME

I only wish the lens was 8-12mm effective focal length for a little bigger magnification. The F1.2 definitely stands out at night.
