My SG9663DC is installed in a 2004 Audi A4, hardwired using the original power cable. I cut the cigarette lighter plug to connect it to a switched +12 V, as you see in the picture, in the left side. This gets 12 V for two positions of the key: one is the normal ignition, the other is a rather undocumented 'accessories', handy if I want to have the camera record at full FPS with the engine off. The fuse I used to connect to in parallel is used for the heating resistors of the windshield washer nozzles, so the circuit is quite simple: the 12 V from the battery go through the ignition switch and then through the fuse and resistors to ground. If you were wondering, the other add-a-fuse is used for a semi-hardwired GPS unit which is always powered, in parallel with the parking sensors (which I have), and tire pressure monitor and light and rain sensor (which I am not aware of). The grounding point is common for both devices and it is the screw (top right) on the metal frame which holds the dash. I actually intend to switch sometime to the silver screw from top left as grounding point.
The camera is installed since May 2018 and is currently running on FW 1.32 (updated sometime last year). I've only driven 8000 km since then. It works great, but there is still this unexplained behavior: extremely seldom (this is maybe the third time) it silently fails to write anything on the card during a segment of driving. Here is a listing of the files on the card (a 64 GB Samsung Pro Plus):
On the 12th of January there has been definitely one more segment between 15:16 and 17:32. The previous time this occurred was sometime in August, so it is not temperature related. Since I have the camera, I've read most of what was posted here, but I don't recall anything similar. Any thoughts?
Unfortunately, I installed the camera so that the rearview mirror covers it for me completely, specifically to avoid being distracted by the blinking red light, so I don't know whether the camera was actually powered when the hiccups occurred. I now activated the sounds so that it greets me at startup. As a side question here which I think was discussed before: can we have the option of a more discreet startup chime, something like the double beep we hear when there is no card inside?
And another side question: if you look at the filelist you will notice a two hours offset between the last modified time reported by the operating system and the time written in the filename. This is the UTC offset of the timezone I live in (EET), so obviously my OS (Linux) thinks the files are saved with UTC timestamps and converts them to my local time. It doesn't bother me, just wanted to know where the problem lies. Probably in the way Linux interprets timestamps, as far as I recall from file listings in Windows posted by others there was no offset.
