I use a Nexus 5 with external memory to record my trips (with Dailyroads/Videoreg), but I suspect that it may very well be better to use a phone camera without OIS, since my camera's lens seems to be bouncing up and down seriously, I have a very sturdy holder, and with a phone with fixed lens, the vibes were much less.

Anyone?

Fixed lens, my 5S didn't stabilize my dashcam video very well

I am having similar issues with my Nexus 5. Been alternating between Daily Roads and Auto Boy and both get that wavy effect when driving, like the lens is bouncing all over the place. Thinking a dedicated cam might be the better route and smaller. Plus, I'd still like to be able to use my phone to stream music and gps directions as well, not sure how well all three of those will work together.
