Hats off to the OPP for adopting a sensible and informed attitude towards dash cam use ......and hats off to the driver of the vehicle with the dashcam for reading the situation correctly and maintaining a safe distance between himself and the vehicle in front in anticipation of the inevitable. As always there could be a number of reasons for the accident.....texting....DUI falling asleep.....or even being taken ill at the wheel....Time will tell.......I have on many occasions seen drivers reading newspapers whilst hurtling down the motorway......the mind boggles....Ipolo_O

However, fast forward to today and here is the story

Provincial police say while dashboard cameras for vehicles were effective, they are too cost prohibitive to be installed permanently.

42 vehicles in the province were fitted with the cameras for a 10-year pilot project and while in the field it was deemed a success, the province said it was too costly.

Instead, CTV's Paul Bliss tells the Live Drive that the province could be looking at body cameras instead.

The issue appears to be cost.

Bliss quotes government sources saying the dashcams could cost upwards of $5000-6000 per car for thousands of vehicles across the province.

Are you kidding me $5000 to $6000 per car!

If it was $5000 to $6000 per car, and they did even consider looking into reducing costs, why even bother. Shouldn't they just done a feasibility study to begin with.
