I've seen some reports of failures to record and early death of Road Angel cams on various web forums and dashcam sites but I can't point you to anything. I'd be cautious and ensure the seller will do right if you have problems. Also make sure an RMA doesn't involve shipping to Chiba which is expensive, slow, and uncertain.

value for money etc.

I would not touch anything 720p, even if it is the rear camera.
