3-800 :) thats the size where you put the camera on the lens and not the more normal lens on the camera.

I have never gotten around to get one of the large lenses for any of my cameras, biggest one is a 80 -300 mm ( i think ) for a erly 80ties Canon SLR
 
Maybe you could combine it with a mechanical IR filter and remove both for the dark, put both back for the daylight?
what I have been thinking for a while, incorporate it into the ir cut filter, when the ir filter comes on at night the cpl goes off etc.. must be possible.
 
I don't use one with my dashcam as you lose 1 to 2 stops of light with an average polarizer. Very useful on a sunny day, but a bit of a problem the rest of the time. The windshield reflections don't bother me enough to go that route.

On the other hand, I have several good quality CPL's with my BW film setup (yes I still shoot and process Tri-X), dSLR setup as well as my mirrorless setup. :)
