3-800 thats the size where you put the camera on the lens and not the more normal lens on the camera.

I have never gotten around to get one of the large lenses for any of my cameras, biggest one is a 80 -300 mm ( i think ) for a erly 80ties Canon SLR

Maybe you could combine it with a mechanical IR filter and remove both for the dark, put both back for the daylight?

what I have been thinking for a while, incorporate it into the ir cut filter, when the ir filter comes on at night the cpl goes off etc.. must be possible.

Yep, that's pretty much what happens. Video on this page shows the size fairly well and near the end shows where the filter goes.

[I Killed It With Fire]

I don't use one with my dashcam as you lose 1 to 2 stops of light with an average polarizer. Very useful on a sunny day, but a bit of a problem the rest of the time. The windshield reflections don't bother me enough to go that route.

On the other hand, I have several good quality CPL's with my BW film setup (yes I still shoot and process Tri-X), dSLR setup as well as my mirrorless setup.
