I finally got the settings on the DR750s-2CH so it properly records in parked mode. I mistakenly upgraded the firmware and where allowed values were once 00-90, they are now 0-9 in the .ini file. So, when I tried restoring my .ini file, it screwed everything up. That's now resolved.

What I do notice is that I cannot even read a license plate of a car in front of me. Resolution is set at FDH @30 + FDH @30. I didn't find a difference with 60 fps....maybe even a little worse. Not bright enough? Image quality is highest. Enhanced night vision off. Brightness for both front and rear is 1.

Today is overcast and on the way in I was lucky enough to capture some a-hole blowing lights and passing cars in the oncoming lane. I caught up to him at a traffic light and, looking at the video, I cannot even read his plate.

Can anyone offer some suggested settings that may improve the camera image?

It's hard to read licences plates at night with your car lights ON, and quite impossible when your car lights are OFF.
Same issue with other dashcam brands.

Would you upload a video to check this ?

This was this morning with overcast conditions, no headlights on.

Even on videos I have seen on YouTube, the clarity of some of the cameras looks great compared to this one.

With firmware 1.003 you have to set brightness to level 3 front and rear.

Please upload a video to check your night vision

They're now at 3. The update mentioned NOTHING about the sensitivity change range so when I popped the .ini file back in, those settings were all out of whack.

I will. I have been at work all day. I made some changes, put the SD back for some motion testing, made other changes, etc. I changed the brightness to 3 and I also tilted the camera down a notch. I think I might have been capturing too much of the sky and that might throw off the brightness. I also had to set the motion sensitivity lower as cars driving by on the road would trigger the recording.

I have errands to run after work and the morning ride back in.

Whats the hype all about with this blackvue cameras if people are reporting that license plates can't be read?
Sigh:rolleyes:

It's disappointing. If I am right behind a car at a traffic light, it will capture the plate. But, if following at a reasonable distance, forget it, day or night.

For the most part, the PSP/motion/parking settings are working okay. The only issue is when it is parked in my garage. It will see the noise as movement and just record for 6 hours until the timer shuts it off. I just throw the switch on the PSP since if the car is in my locked garage, I'm not too concerned.

If you don't post any picture or video sample, we can't help....

I've been using various dashcams for 5 or 6 years. Some have been better, some worse...
I have been using a bunch of off brand names and clones, some more known names,...Mini 0805P, LS300W / GT300W, more recently Vantrue N2 Pro, Xiaomi 70 and DR750S-2CH. They have all performed satisfactory.
The DR750S is defeinitely better than the rest of the lot (Vantrue N2 Pro is still pending), with extra features and good image quality... but I have not been super amazed with it over the last couple of weeks of using. The image quaility is not what i'd expect from the $350+ set up... in 2016/17 seeing the license plates was a "very nice to have", but in 2018 i am almost expecting to be able to read them... WITHOUT sacrificing the 60fps and tinkering to no end with settings. plus the issues with WiFi/App, the low bit rates, grainy images at higher settings, some other ones that have been reported...

Just my opinion based on real world usage, I have zero brand loyalty. But i am going to explore other options in search for a better video image with the same range of extra features and options. Lets see what the 900 series brings.

I will try to post pic or video. We're in the middle of a snow and icy storm so not much being recorded through the window looks good.

I asked Blackvue CS about the effective range of the cameras to read plates and they said it's about 5 meters. The angle of lighting / time of day is also very important.

Whats wrong with these screengrabs ?????????

Here are three images. The one at the stop light, you can make out the plate of the car in front of me but look at the car to the right. Not too good. Then look at the Jeep to the left. Even worse. Other pics are just following at normal distances.

Here are some of mine, similar quality. Again, better than most cameras... "Good", but not "great". Definitely not "amazing". Forget about the rear camera...

Mine has also about same quality.
But it depends on many factors, including brightness of the day.

Im not being critical here but to me both lots of screenshots show the camera is aimed a bit high. In mine there is only about 25/30% sky
In Chris's ones there is 50% sky.
An example of what can happen is have your car in a garage pointing out and turn the camera on. You will find the amount of light from outside will make the camera dull down the shots so that the interior of the car is dimmed out. This is what happens if the camera is too high it adjusts itself for the light from the brightest area (the sky) and so the rest is duller than it should be. Dont worry that yoiu can see some of the dash, you can still see all you need of the road and you arent wanting shots of aeroplanes

I've only 35-40% of sky.
But HillBilly you have IMO too much dashboard.
This gives much more distorsion (fish-eye effect) to the driving scene.
