hey all -

I just picked up the Power Magic Pro Plus (PMPP) and have a few questions. I'm not too savvy when it comes to wiring. My car already has three outlets, none of them run 'hot' (without keys in ignition). I have a blackvue up in front and one in back.

1) The PMPP has two sockets. After installing this, does that give me a total of 5 outlets that I can use?
2) How easy is it to set up one of the sockets to run 'hot'? Or will installing this unit take care of that?

The instructions for the unit is below. I plan to take it to an auto technician but have no idea what they should charge to do this.

thanks

This is EASY and you can do it yourself. What car do you have? The fusebox should tell which is fuse is ACC and which is BATT.

You only need to hook up 3 wires. ACC, BATT the black is ground.

I purchased this fuse tap on ebay.

You will need to connect the PMPP to the fuse box. Also you probably need a voltmeter to test which ones are "hot" when the car is off, which will allow the PMPP to run when the car is off. The yellow goes to a fuse that is always on even if the car is off. The red goes a one when the ignition is on. Black goes to a grounding point. I would also advise you to buy 2 "add a circuit" fuse, which will allow you to avoid wrapping the wire on the fuse like in the manual.

i got a toyota sienna. i'll find the fuse box and try to work it out.

is the "add a circuit" fuse the same as a fuse tap? i'm watching this guy and he didn't use one. where can i get the same voltmeter he has? i am an illiterate fool when it comes to these things :(

That is a cowboy job, it will work but it's not very safe.

it's scary how many people have watched the videos this guy has done on this, very dodgy installation, no wonder comments are disabled

Parking mode is overrated...I installed my cam in the Sienna in like 15 min. Tap into the Homelink rear mirror power..

You can get the pen voltmeter for cheap at walmart. I bought one and it broke the very second I opened it. LOL.

I didn't need to voltmeter. On the fuse panel, everything is labeled. Yellow wire to BATT fuse, and Red wire to ACC fuse.

Note where BATT and ACC fuse are labeled.

That guy is an absolute cowboy and the result of doing that could be your car could go on fire

Have a look at this tread about how I installed one in a POLO It is for just the camera but the Power Magic is basically the same.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/ ... 56577.html If you use A Power magic and the ciggy socket supplied you dont need a fuse in the line because the ciggy plug has one in it.

Read this thread to save me typing it all again viewtopic.php?f=9&t=439 and this one viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1364

Tells you the bits you need and how to fit them You need to find the correct places in the fuse box which is normally inside the car.

Parking mode really isn't worth it, IMO.

Like I said in the other thread. the Power Magic Pro is good as an extra outlet. This keeps your main 12V Cigarette light free and keeps the cords out of the way.

Easiest way to hook it up is to just splice into existing 12V cigarette lighter's power supply. Just hook both positive cables from you PMP to Positive supply on main 12V outlet and other to the ground. Now it will receive power whenever the main one receives power.

Or you could just hook up both positive cables to acc. positive. Same thing, the outlet will only receive power if the key is on to acc. power orif the vehicle is running.

And you can set your battery voltage to 12.4V or something. Like if you are sitting in the car waiting with the ignition off and running on accessory power for your audio or whatever. The dashcam will power off when the voltage reaches below 12.4V This acts as a good indication and lets you know to start up your car to charge your batteries.

having been an auto-elec once I did mine properly. I actually soldered all the wires to the respective correct places, no voltage drops there, no crap intermittent connections just solid pure power.
