I am about to install a C3 onto my motorcycle, and the supplied USB lead (long) is not the most ideal way of doing it. The need for a cigarette lighter socket, the 12V to USB adapter (supplied) to change that to USB A and then the lead to change from USB A to 8 pin micro usb leaves a lot of potential water ingress points, corrosion points and potential short circuits.
Now, I have also just installed a Xexun GPS tracker to the same bike, and as part of my purchase I bought a dedicated USB lead that has a switch on it to change the lead from a USB data lead to a USB charging lead.
This lead has the same connector as the C3 and I suspect it would work just fine as a power lead for it too.
Looking further into it, the same seller has a 12V to 5V charge lead for the Xexun range of GPS trackers as well, and if my suspicions are correct, this lead will make an ideal installation for a motorbike or a car if a 12V hard wired power source is desired.
The charge lead.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/280705750308The 12v to 5V lead.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/281110666583I have sent the seller a message asking if the connectors are the same and if he knows if the power output is on pins 1 & 2 on the 8 pin micro USB connector.
I will try to do some comparison testing of the C3 lead and the Xexun charge lead that I have (if I can find some test probes small enough to get into the connector) and post results.

This is good real world feedback so we can suggest/offer more universal installation options that people will be doing. This camera is pretty versatile and has a ton of different uses.

@Grim Reaper, very interested to hear your ideas and would like to do DIY, people are looking forward to see that.

Regarding the pins, please refer below sketch from C3, that may help.

Thanks Rockthinking, but in the picture you posted, it looks like it's using pin 1 (VUSB) for +5V, but what is the $$17065 on pin 2? Pin 8 (GND) appears not to be connected, is that right? And pin 7 (MIC_L+).
I could believe this if the numbering was reversed so pin 8 was actually pin 1 (7 is 2 and so on)
For a charge only USB connection (no data) I'd expect pin 1 (GND) and pin 2 (+5V) at the 8 pin connector end as per this guide http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21446372&postcount=21
I'll feel safer testing the leads I have first and making sure there are no reversals to accepted normal pin outs before I plug anything in.

I think Rock's pcb layout may be marked differently from usb port
on the usb port ...
usb pin 1 is ground
but
on pcb it is numbered as pin8

usb cable for dashcam power (2 wires) is on pin 2 of usb port.
but on pcb ..it is pin 7

usb cable for data ...5v+ is on pin 8 of usb port.
but on pcb it is pin 1.

Use this

perhaps Rock can sell sell this as well, or add a few to C1/C2/C3 kits
