protecting videos

Is there any way of protecting a video from being overwritten if say you are on a long trip and take a video of something interesting along the way like a car crash or similar and want to save it for later viewing but still continue filming on your trip.
I know some cams have a button to press to lock the file but I can't seem to find such a thing on the F500lhd.

Most cameras these days have the ability to manually write protect a file, it's not always obvious though, you could try pressing each button once while recording

There are some cams though that don't have this function
