Just getting into dash cams. I've played around a little with the 808 cameras, and currently own a #16.

I have a recently purchased dash cam from Amazon, and it indicates full hd at 1080p, it's a http://www.amazon.com/Carcam-G-sensor-camera-high-resolution-wide-angle/dp/B00B1AEHZC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371239297&sr=8-1&keywords=dash+cam+600#productDetails

Is there any way to tell if it's really 1080P or just up-scaled?

The details of a video show it is
MJPG
.avi
1920 x1080
19,643kbps
25FPS
3 Min file is 436MB

Sample video on the Internet (not mine)

Thoughts?

The timestamp is the same as on my CarCam K6000 (or something, I'm not sure of the exact model, it looks exactly like a K2000 physically). Which is actually a 720p dashcam, and when you choose 1080p it's higher resolution but image quality is same as 720p (so waste of storage), but nontheless a very good cam.

For this one, I don't know :)
