I have a SUV and I just bought a dash cam, the dash cam came with a rear camera which is in the form of a cube about 3x3x3 cm and with a metal bracket.

Is a rear camera useful in a SUV?

What is the best position for the rear camera, inside or outside the car?

If it is mounted outside the car, the camera is likely to be damaged easily.

Is the rear camera weather resistant, i.e. is it VU and water resistant?

Almost no remote dashcam modules are waterproof, and even then an inside installation usually better. That will keep the cam lens clean and within the area of your rear wipers so that it captures good images in the rain, protecting it from damage, theft, and vandalism. Consider how the door or hatch functions, and how you load things into it. You don't want to stress the cabling or have the cam where it will get banged around.

Your front cam does most of the 'work' in protecting you, but a rear cam can help with capturing front plates and drivers faces. It can also show a history of anyone driving dangerously and fast overtaking you. I highly recommend rear cams.
